Free Music Notes for Appeal To ReasonFree Music Review: Thought it would be better Hit: 3 Stars
This CD is ok but not what I expected. I thought Rise Against was going to be a little more punk and a little less pop (maybe their other material is; I couldn't say). They sound a bit like the Offspring but without as much edge.
Still, it's not a bad album. There are some good songs on here. I would have expected something harder considering all the revolutionary imagery and rhetoric they use. If you like "punk-lite," however, then this is probably the disc for you.
Not bad but not recommended.
Free Music Review: Not bad, but not great Hit: 3 Stars
It is okay, but if you are choosing between the two albums go for Sufferer and Witness.
Free Music Review: just not the same anymore, hopefully the next album returns to the band i loved Hit: 2 Stars
this was my absolute favorite band, i have the logo tattooed on me and everything...
but this cd just isn't the rise against i know.
i don't know if some producer or label got a hold of them or if they just wanted to step in a completely different direction on their own, but, this cd has ruined it for me.
this was a band that when their new album came out i would put in the player and it wouldn't leave for months and months... this cd lasted all of a day, and that truly saddens me.
there isn't any punch or kick to their music on this album and the only decent track on it is the obligatory slow song they have on every album (this one is 'hero of war')
its pretty sad when your favorite band comes out with their new cd and after a day, you just can't wait for the next album already in the hopes that it will be the band you used to love once again.
Free Music Review: Rise Against has changed Hit: 2 Stars
I am not pleased with this album. Rise Against's image has changed. They went from being a hard punk bank which is what I like; to their new softer pop style. I was a big fan of Rise Against between "The Unraveling" and "Siren song of the counter culture" albums. But since then the band has moved away from their old style and are more like a super-liberal-vegetarianism activist group. I am really big into the punk rock ideology but this band now criticizes people for not being liberal and not being vegan. This goes against everything that punk rock is truly about. Punk rock accepts people for their differences, that's why the music was created in the first place. I still gave this cd 2 stars and not 1 because I did like the song Savior and the rhythm's of some of the other songs. As for those who like the older Rise Against style I don't suggest buying this.
Free Music Review: Horrible Hit: 1 Stars
I always planned on getting around to reviewing this album, but never bothered.
Now I've gotten around to it.
When I first recieved this album (got it for Christmas of '08) I was super excited about it, I had been anticipating it's release alot.
But then I took a listen and I was like, this sucks!
What happened to the Hardcore Punk band we all knew and loved?
And I was even more disappointed when I started hearing their songs everywhere and seeing their videos everywhere.
I mean, they started becoming big with Sufferer and The Witness, but it wasn't nearly as mainstream as this album was. And S&TW was still a decent album, this was not.
And I was disappointed in Hero Of War, because at first I thought it was some sort of Anti-war song, but then after listening and watching the video, it seemed to me it must have been a song for the war?
I was thinking how wrong that was for a band that's so Liberal to write such a song.
And sometimes I tried to doubt that it was a pro-war song, but knowing how mainstream the song was, it knew it wasn't anti-war, because otherwise everyone would hate it.
So that really made me start hating the band.
Sometimes hope and dream that the Rise Against I loved will come back with their next album, but something makes me know that it's not gonna happen.
I think they're enjoying the money and popularity too much to come back to the REAL fans and the REAL life of a musician.
So they'll stick with FAKE fans instead.
At least I can still go back and listen to the old albums and love them, but it's just not quite the same.
I remember when these guys used to be my favorite band.
Now they're luckily to even be in my Top 100 favorite bands.
Sucks.
Will they ever listen to the REAL fans and come back to the Punk Rock world, I highly doubt it.
At least there are some good bands out there that don't get tempted by the mainstream and never will.
I mean, look at Kevin Seconds, he was in the legendary Punk band 7 Seconds, now he does mostly solo music and art. And after all these years he's never been tempted by the mainstream, he could become huge if he wanted to.
He could be rich if he wanted, but instead, he sticks with his fans and really doesn't make that much money.
I know alot of people out there agree with me, right?
(P.S. I'm not a kid, I'm 16 year old girl)
