Free Music Notes for Riven (Original Score)Free Music Review: Absolute Abandon Hit: 5 Stars
It's a more mature and accomplished work than Myst but listening to Riven is like being actually transported to that world. For me this is cool, and I must stress, once you stick this CD into your system your living room will suddenly feel as deserted and lonely as Riven itself. If you like feelings of absolute abandon then go for it. It also helps you to relax after a hard day. It may not be very melodic, substituting theme for atmosphere, but the Myst jingle is still in there. Riven is pure mood music. Playing this CD will instantly change your feelings and thoughts. You must buy, it's not just for fans of the game. The CD lasts about 55 minutes and comes an a worryingly flimsy cardboard/plastic case and contains a small booklet featuring archaeological information of D'Ni with several cool looking pictures.
Free Music Review: HOLY COW!!! Hit: 5 Stars
It's wonderful, it's entrancing, it's sooo GOOOOD!!! I would almost give my right hand for this (I am left-handed, so don't worry). What do I say about this? Let me tell you: B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. The most waking pieces on this CD must be "Boat Ride", "The Red Cave" and the bonus track. I've heard rumors that the Santa Fé Symphony Orchestra plays all the "strings", but the convolute says that all the music is made with Synth. Sad, but never the less it is among the few CD:s I own where ALL tracks are actually good! Since I own both the Myst and Riven computer games I do know what the tracks wan't to symbolize. And they do it well... Now, I guess, I will have to buy the Myst Soundtrack to.THIS IS MY BEST CD!!!
Free Music Review: Beautiful.. Entrancing Hit: 5 Stars
Being an avid fan of the games and the universe invented for them, I am no less pleased with the music that accompanies Riven. Although I am a trifle disappointed with the fact that there are none of the game's ambient sound ~effects~, the music itself is still mezmerizing and beautiful enough to hold its own. The tracks with a steady rhythm (as opposed to the flowing, quiet, ethereal air of the rest) are intense and dark, giving the feeling of purpose and urgency. The entire soundtrack is well worth getting.. and if you're a true fan the bonus booklet inside is a great plus, containing fabulous graphics and tidbits of information dealing with Gehn and the D'ni culture. Also- beautiful disk design! Wish I could translate D'ni language!
Free Music Review: I liked it. Hit: 5 Stars
OK, I admit it: Robyn Miller's music appeals to me. It has a mystical, surrealistic quality that is enticing. However, music is very idiosyncratic, and what appeals to me may be an anathema to you. Try the "Listen to Sample" selections, and see if they are at least in the ballpark of your musical tastes. These selections are only 30 seconds long, but they give you a rough, first approximation of the ambience of this CD. If you liked the game Riven, you'll love its soundtrack. My CD did have a "hiss and surface noise" problem, when I first played it. But this problem disappeared after my sound card was upgraded to a Creative SB Live.
Free Music Review: The Riven Soundtrack: A review by ToM Hit: 5 Stars
Players who enjoyed the music of Riven will especially enjoy this soundtrack, which includes ALL music found in the game of Riven (including the ever-popular Moiety Theme). The only music NOT included in the CD is the canen (Gehn's stereo) music. There are 20 tracks, averaging about 2:30 each. The entire soundtrack is about an hour in length, and music content exceeds that in the game. That is, the music tracks on the CD contain more music than you hear in the game, which is good (More music :)). My advice to you if you enjoyed Riven and its music, GET THIS CD!!!!!!!!! ;-) You'll be happy you did. Shorah, ToM
