Free Music Notes for Riven (Original Score)Free Music Review: Very Mysterious Sound Hit: 5 Stars
A great soundtrack. Full of Mysterious and dark music. I loved the use of a lot of percussion.
Free Music Review: Without the Game... Hit: 5 Stars
Even without having played the game it gives you a feeling of playing it as you listen!
Free Music Review: The Best Hit: 5 Stars
The Video Game was the most awesome game and I love the music.
Free Music Review: When I listened to RIVEN for the first time Hit: 4 Stars
I was amazed how very different it is from it's sister soundtrack MYST. In MYST, there are several different themes placed perfectly throughout the game that appear on this disk. There are bizarre drum solos, ambiant piano, and loud strings. I was, needless to say, a bit dissapointed with RIVEN's discontinued likeliness. Instead of loud, welcoming music, I was greeted at first by a strange 11 second sound effect of a porthole opening followed by a series of monotone bass noises accompanied by scarce sound effects. We are then presented not with a sountrack but rather a continues "meditation music" companion. Though I have not played the game, Robyn's strangly restrained music seems misplaced in a game of (correct me if I'm wrong)many different worlds. It's almost as if Miller were making it up as he goes; trying his best to engross us in the content by stretching a long, monotonous tone. He, unfortunatly, fails. We are presented with a piece of music barely audible at times. The only track on the disk of any real engrossing music is a superb track entitled CATHERINE'S FREEDOM. This starts off very mono (how illplaced!), however speeds up to a very well paced construction illustrating a picture very clearly. If you'll notice, none of these comments were necessarily bad (thus the 4-star rating). The music, as I have read, and I agree, is excellent by which to read, write, and relax with. It provides a soft, gentle sound that soothes, and gives off a vibe unmatched in splendor and beauty.
Free Music Review: It's more of a "mixed" review this one me thinks Hit: 4 Stars
( 1stly: There is FAR too much bass in the music! My speakers can't [bleepin'] handle it!! lol. )Well I think that this is a great soundtrack. The thing is, I have found that becuase I haven't played the game in a long while the tracks can become too ambient for me. There are some great ones though. Like track 9,4, and all of the Theme tracks eg. Atrus' Theme. When I say "too ambient" I mean that tracks like Gehn speaks is quite nice but not as good if you don't see it in the context of the game itself. The bass doesn't do much to help it, too rumbly!!! lol. I was going to write more but I guess I didn't have enough patience as I thought I did. Too finish up quickly then. This is great ambient stuff and there are some really great stuff. However the tracks can become too "samey" if u haven't played the game in awhile or not remember where in the game the tracks come. I definatly recomed this but at times the music is "cold" Robyn Miller uses at times a wind pad at the bass of the track and this can make the track seem cold. THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT THE SMALL TRACK FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME WHEN THE "CYAN" LOGO APPEARS. NOT THAT SILLY "LINK" SOUND. LOLOLOL [I do not believe that just beucsase I have used caps it has any more of a chance of being read than if i used normal text.] Hope this helps... probably not tho.
