Rob Dougan's Furious Angels is a CD that just about anyone can have enjoy. A composer, writer, singer, and anything else you can think of, the man has talent. Denying that would be claiming the earth doesn't spin around the sun. The two disc set is well worth the price, whatever that might end up being. I think it's only fair to discuss all of the tracks on the first disc as the second is all instrumentals of those on the first.
Prelude: A great opening with a harmonous choir. Slightly chilling in some respects, but a strong start.
Furious Angels: The title track gives you the first glimpse of what Mr. Dougan is capable of. The man's voice is one of a movie star than a singer.
Will You Follow Me: Probably one of the shortest tracks, it has strong orchestral work. Those who like classic music might be listening to this track several times.
Left Me For Dead: One of my favorite tracks. The power in Dougan's voice keeps the song moving as well as the beat. I can see this in a movie if it were ever called upon.
I'm Not Driving Anymore: The opening is funky and keeps you listening. The overall beat in the song is hard hitting and basic at the same time. The song seems to me to be ironically a great song to listen to while driving.
Clubbed to Death: This song is the reason why I bought this masterpiece to begin with. As many know, this was featured in the Matrix when Neo is walking down the street for the first time in the matrix. It's also been in some movie trailers like Ultra Violet. The piano sequences are beautifully written. If you ask me, it's the best song on the CD, but that's not to take light from any other track on here.
There's Only Me: Dougan's varying tones work well with the song, giving it's meaning.
Instrumental: An appropriate title for half way through the record. A more mellow song.
Nothing At All: A more laid back track. The song's soothing melody is backed by Dougan's softer tone here.
Born Yesterday: One of the most electric tracks on the record. I'd say that Rob has more of a blues type of influence here.
Speed Me Towards Death: A quicker mood is in this song. Strong lyrics are reinforced by the building orchestra in the background.
Drinking Song: I'm not too familiar with this track, but the feeling from this one is much different from the other ones.
Pause: The shortest track on album which is totally silent the whole time. Gives the album a "pause".
One And The Same (Coda): Another song that I'm not familiar with. Rob Dougan had some aid in this track. Again, I get a blues-type of vibe from this track. Well done though.
Clubbed to Death 2: The last track on the first disc. The first minute or so of the song is silent. But the overall beat builds up and then starts pounding away, which keeps the song moving. This one, like the first, is fantastic. I find myself listening to this one often for the driving beat and overall feel of the song. The final song to the first disc wraps it up very well. Rob Dougan's genius is seen throughout the entire album.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone. No matter who you are, I could almost guarentee that you will find at least one song that you enjoy. Taking ten years to create, Furious Angels shows that Rob Dougan is a master of his craft. If you don't like the man's voice for some reason, refer to the second disc for nothing, but music.
