Free Music Notes for Rob Thomas: Something to BeFree Music Review: Outstanding Effort ! Hit: 5 Stars
A friend introduced me Matchbox 20 years ago when they were nobody and I said to him, "This guy's voice is amazing", I was refering to the first CD "Yourself or Someone Like You". Tracks like "Real World", "Long Day" and "Kody" just really sounded like these guys knew what they were doing.
I told my friend that these guys would be huge. And that was back in 1996.
Now, Rob Thomas' solo effort has done the band one better. Please don't be fooled into thinking that "Lonely No More", the first hit from this CD is where it ends.
This guy is an amazing artist. His songs and his dedication to good music is very evident on every track of this new CD.
"...Something To Be" is as fresh and new as anything I've heard in the past few years.
Rob Thomas is a magnificent singer and you would only be doing yourself a favor by listening to this CD.
Free Music Review: AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME Hit: 5 Stars
Rob proves once again that he's not afraid to try something different. Each of the MB20 albums was a little further on the edge than the last and this solo effort is no different. I loved the different sounds, from the deep dark song I Am An Illusion, to the BEAUTIFUL piano of Now Comes The Night. These songs are filled with such emotion and meaning that it's hard not to enjoy them. There's a little here for everyone. I especially liked the sound of All That I Am. This is an album that can be enjoyed over and over and it never gets old. I also liked the DVD side. It was great to see what goes on behind the scenes. I just wish the video to Lonely No More had been included. It's a good thing lyrics is included on this side because the insert had incorrect lyrics or parts of lyrics had been deleted on a few songs. All in all, though a great CD and am waiting for more.
Free Music Review: Wonderful Surprise - UPDATE Hit: 5 Stars
Due to my appreciating a few Matchbox 20 songs, I had purchased 2 of their CDs and was disappointed. Just too "loud". However, I liked Rob Thomas' voice and style and decided to take a chance on this CD. I'm glad I did! All That I Am is my favorite. This CD was upbeat, then quiet, but not too over-the-top as I found the Matchbox 20 music to be. More, Rob, More!!
UPDATE: It is now 5 years later than my first review. I still enjoy this CD. I've come into this century, however, and work with iTunes and an iPod. I enjoy the portability, so I definitely have this in my mix. "All That I Am" is still my favorite, but I certainly enjoy the rest of the songs. I just noticed that Amazon shows this not available for some reason, which surprises me. Hopefully you download your music now so you can enjoy this. I am still waiting for another release from him!
Free Music Review: Something to Be definintely a good album Hit: 5 Stars
Rob Thomas definitely shows off his talent in Something to Be. The opening track "This is How a Heart Breaks" is filled with emotion. And then they follow up that track with "Lonely No More" the first single and possibly the strongest song on the entire album. He made a good choice to make this his first single. The other tracks on the album are also very good. Like the title track "Something to Be" gives you a sense of realistic suffering to find what he wants to be. Then "Streetcorner Symphony" and "Here Comest the Night" end the CD. "Streetcorner Symphony" is my favorite track because it's about world peace and accepting that people are different, different beliefs, different cultures, etc. Other than the four tracks I've mentioned the rest of the CD is very good to decent while those four are some of the best he's ever written rivaling "3 am" and "Push".
Free Music Review: Something To Be! Something So Brilliant. Hit: 5 Stars
Like the song, Ron Thomas is ever the same. He is an amazing song writer, and in my books, the best song writer in this world. So many people could not even come close to his talent and remarkable voice. He is a masterpiece and so is this album. "Ever The Same" is a brilliant song and may just be used as my wedding song in the future. All songs in fact are well thought out and made. Rob has changed the style of music in a good way so that it doesn't sound like a Matchbox album. He has given it that sort of R&B feel to it, it sounds great and Rob looks great. He fits in well with this type of music and style. His solo album is worth buying. He's still ever the same in his lyrical content. Buy this record and dont rip off a great musician that works so hard and deserves record sales. Nothing but Brilliant!!
