Free Music Notes for Something to BeFree Music Review: Still working out his "style" Hit: 4 StarsMy opinion of the debut solo album by Rob Thomas ranges from "outstanding" to "so-so". Here is why:
The first song HOW A HEART BREAKS is outstanding in that it is relentlously forward and never lets up. The song is RED HOT. It is very well-written (by Rob Thomas, of course) and he delivers a forceful, yet pensive vocal performance. Impressive, indeed.
The second track is just as great as the first. LONELY NO MORE is super-cool pop with a nice edgy approach. Another great song by Mr. Thomas. He is such a talented writer/vocalist and this song shows his versatility.
The third track is nice with a catchy instrumental hook. There isn't as much melodic movement as the first two tracks but it's a good song.
The rest of the album is good but I can tell Rob Thomas the "writer" may be searching for his true niche, which is fine considering this: When you have a voice like Rob Thomas you can take all the time you need seeking your writing style because there will always be fans (like ME :) ) that will buy his works and adore his vocals!
I very much look forward to hearing his next album. He's one-of-a-kind and there is no doubt that he is here to stay.
Thanks for reading my review!
Free Music Review: Matchstick 20, but softer. Hit: 1 StarsHow did this guy get a record contract for this solo flight. It sounds like he took alittle bit of this alittle bit of that and formed a giant turd in the form of a CD. This stuff is so cliche it's beyond comprehension. There is no feeling or creativity in one second of this material. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes when it comes to music, I won't argue that. If you like pop music that is fine with me. But when you can't even come up with one idea on an entire record you need to be stopped. This is a guy that will be playing county fairs in a few years. Nuff said.
Free Music Review: rob does it again Hit: 5 StarsMy first encounter with Rob Thomas' music was with Carlos Santana on the song "Smooth". I knew he had something special then. By chance I happen to be in my daughter's room one night and listened to one of the songs on this cd. I liked it and went to amazon to listen to a few more clips. I bought it and was very happy. This cd is one of the best I have heard. Both the lyrics and music are exceptional and show wonderful range. I liked the whole cd right from the first listen, and after many listenings, am loving it so much that when I'm not listening to it, I am singing the songs in my head! He has a great voice which is fully realized in this versatile cd. His piano playing is fine, as are the musicians that accompany him. If you liked the song "Smooth" I don't think you will be disappointed with this amazing solo effort. I will be giving it out as presents this year, as I often do with fabulous cds that I find.
Free Music Review: Great Debut Album - Rob Thomas - Something to Be Hit: 4 StarsI really love this album. It isn't perfect, but it's still great as a debut album. Rob Thomas offers great alternative music, with my favorite song on the album being "Lonely No More." The song is great because you can relate to the words of the song, and the song has a great beat to which you can dance to. He's probably more known for the song "This is how a heart breaks," which was featured on the NBA on ABC theme song a year ago. That song is also fantastic, and also a song you'll love to dance to. After listening to this first album, I'm hoping that he releases a second album soon. This is a sensational album that I highly recommend.
Free Music Review: Something to Be---Rob Thomas Hit: 5 StarsRob Thomas does it all in this great collection. When I heard "This is How a Heart Breaks" on the radio, I thought, I have to own this CD and I have not been disappointed. I think it should get the grammy for album of the year.
