Free Music Notes for Zombie Live AlbumFree Music Review: Ahh, how I miss the better sounds... Hit: 2 Stars
First off, I am a hardcore ROB ZOMBIE fan. I have all of his studio-produced albums (WZ and RZ) and am actively seeking those rare great performances. I have been to several of his tour visits to the Chicagoland area and enjoyed his fantastic shows.
I have not purchased this album. I do not plan to purchase this album. I have listened to most of the tracks off of this album in the local Sam Goody and can honestly say, I plan to stick to the studio-produced stuff.
Sure, there is the great thrill of seeing Rob live on stage with thousands of die-hard fans kicking faces, moshing, and whipping hair as we bang our heads to his guttural cries and screams... I have watched the YouTube films of him performing live and missing a few words of a song here and there, or not quite hitting the pitch of a note in American Witch, among others. I fully understand that touring and singing several shows back-to-back can wreak havoc on a singer's vocal cords, especially with as much tearing and scratching of throat as Rob puts into his performances...
However, while listening to these half-baked versions on this LIVE album, I am severely disappointed that Rob and his producers think this is the best that they could do to make these songs even slightly resemble the original masterpieces on the studio albums. Most of the thrill of a live performance is SEEING the amazing action of Rob as he stomps around and screams. In the mosh pit and even in the general arena, there are thousands of bodies sweating and slamming into one another and in our hearts and our minds we fill in the gaps of where the music misses a beat or a note or even an entire chorus...
Now having to hear the unbuffered sounds that entered the microphone on stage while Rob was trying to catch his breath is just plain wrong. I know Rob has it in him, but I also know that he gets tired and some performances suffer. He puts everything he has into every performance and we love him for it. But the least he could have done here is try to mix in a little bit of retouching on most of these tracks where they suffer the most. The excitement of seeing him live and bathing in his greatness is truly amazing, but this collection of his off-beat and short-of-breath performances is not something I can listen to, no matter how well-intentioned it may have been.
I love Rob and hope he will keep on rocking and shooting films, but unfortunately, this is just plain crap.
