Free Music Notes for Escapology - Canadian Version (Different Tracks)Free Music Review: Escape Into Robbie Land Hit: 5 Stars
Fifth album released, including that one "Swing While You're Winning", and Robbie is still the world's most fabulous pleaser. The kid's come a long way since his boy band days in Take That back in the 90's. It's been ten years since Take That took over the British charts. A decade has passed...who would have ever thought that Robbie out of all the members would be ruling the charts singlehandedly? Escapology is a remarkable elevation for the entertainer. A little bit of R'n B, Rock, and those signature Robbie songs and you have yourself a new type of Robbie. A much more musically focused artist. The saga begins with 'How Peculiar'. A rock anthem in the steps of past songs 'South Of The Border', and 'Let Love Be Your Energy', short and easy to digest. Then comes 'Feel' which is by far one of Robbie's finest songs. A dramatic boost for Robbie in the direction of artistic excellence. Elton John, George Michael and Sting come to mind after hearing this. This is the most intimate Robbie song ever caught on tape. The song will move you like no other. And it's no wonder that it was chosen as the first single from the album. 'Something Beautiful' is bubblegum pop extraordinary at its best. Highly influenced by the anthemic blues of Billy Joel and the performance of Tom Jones. This is the first new ground that Robbie covers on Escapalogy. 'Monsoon' is a hard rocking track. Expect this to be a live favorite. 'Sexed Up' is the Angels of Escapalogy. I said before in a review of "Sing When You're Winning" that it's songs like these that give juice to Robbie's albums. Well 'Sexed Up' is more than just the juice, it is the fruit itself. A beautiful tune. In fact, the highlight of the entire album. With an open message to former love Nicole Appleton, Robbie declares that it was he who broke up with her and not vice versa. Whatever the song is based on, it is a universal message for all those who can't seem to stick to one partner. 'Love Somebody' follows suit. A good song where the music is much better than the lyrics. 'Revolution' covers the second new ground for Robbie. This time in the rhythm and blues direction. On this one he duets with an unknown, Rose Stone, and what you get is an impressing sweet tune. 'Handsome Man' is a charmer. A rock anthem in the same theme of past tunes 'Let Me Entertain You' and 'Old Before I Die'. What you can't ignore about this song is Robbie's ego surpassing the norm with lyrics like 'I put the brits...in celebrity' The Ego Has Landed? Actually, it has taken off! 'Come Undone' is where he lands once again. A gentle tune where Robbie proclaims 'I am scum....but I'm your son...I come undone' Britain, are you listening? Next Robbie takes on the freshest new ground that he never covered but only wishes to. America. 'Me And My Monkey' is a spoof on modern day pop culture where the stars are...monkeys? A western theme flows throughout the song that steals the title of the famous John Lennon penned Beatles song 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey' and the storyline of the Paul McCartney penned 'Rocky Raccoon' both from The White Album. The song is weird. Funny weird explains it best. But Robbie sure does a good American accent. One of the albums highlights and at over 7 minutes, the longest track Robbie has ever done. 'Song 3' is a hard rocking jab at Blur's 'Song 2'. Not as good as the Blur hit but worthwhile. The following track on the list is 'Hot Fudge'. This song's got "potential future hit single" written all over it. Robbie covers the ground he's trying hard to capture again. In the same theme of John Lennon's "New York City", here he praises Los Angeles in every verse and line of the chorus refering several time that 'there's a green card in the way'. Robbie planning to make the same move that the previously mentioned did to America? 'Cursed' is a low key rocker with a disco orchestration in the background. Whether he is or is not refering to Spice Girl Geri Haliwell in the song, it doesn't matter. Skip! The album ends with Robbie's first ever solo composition titled 'Nan's Song' An ode to his deceased grandmother. A sweet acoustic tune ending the album on a good note that Robbie is a much more talented artist than most people think. Escapology is a staggering effort put together by Robbie Williams and his mate since the very beginning, Guy Chambers. No doubt about it, this pair is one big hit making machine. As for Robbie individually, he's grown and is growing into a dynamic entertainer. Escapology is a step up from his previous album 'Sing When You're Winning'. It's not necessarily reinvention because Robbie needs no reinventing. Straight and simple, he knows how to make good music. Escapology is an instant classic! Highly Recommended
Free Music Review: UK's bad boy releases a new record Hit: 5 Stars
Robbie Williams is one of the most important singers in Europe nowadays, though he is not known in US. Since his early days as a member of the former boyband "Take That", Robbie has developed a very successful solo career, with great albums, such as "Sing when you're winning" and "Swing when you're winning", the latter a tribute to the big old bands. "Escapology" is Robbie Williams latest album, the fifth of his solo career and the first of a multimilionare contract he has signed with EMI, receiving over 120 million dollars for five CDs. The first single is called "feel", which is getting lots of airplays everywhere. It's a cool jazzy and pop song, with a great video, in which Robbie plays the employee of a rich farmer, played by Daryl Hannah. It's worth checking. "Something beautiful" is a great track, similar to some old songs of stevie wonder. The lyrics are interesting and talk about a girl looking for a new love to fullfill and give sense to her life. "Sexed up" is a strong ballad, about a love which is over and should "blow away", as a revenge. "Monsoon" shows the new face of Mr. Robbie Williams, a pop star tired of his life on the spotlight, with beautiful women, drinks, money and meaningless sex. "Love somebody" is the typical Queen song, with lousy guitars and a real choir singing part of the lyrics. "Revolution" is an upbeat duo Robbie sings with a new singer called Rose. The lyrics are good and they really work fine together. "Handsome man" is one of the most interesting pop songs Robbie has ever made. Great chorus and lyrics. "Me and my monkey" is a funny song, about an adventure of Robbie and his monkey in Mexico, with guns and whores. It's long, not commercial song, but really catches you, because it has a mexican arrangement. "Nan's song" is a nice and tender track on this album, about Robbie's dead grandmother. It's like a small poem, very touching. With "Escapology", EMI intends to promote Robbie in US, making him known to the huge public. If you never heard about Robbie Williams before, buy this record, and I'm sure you'll appreciate the great work of UK's most famous bad boy.
Free Music Review: Robbie puts the "brit" in celebrity Hit: 5 Stars
The UK's biggest pop artist returns with his first album of original material since 2000's "Sing When You're Winning." Now, after selling and selling and SELLING copies of this latest release in his homeland, he's set his sights on American audiences once again, coming April 1st. Will the latest trend in quirky, original, "artists actually wrote it themselves" music help Robbie finally gain airplay, Billboard success, and US respect? We will have to see. In the meantime, here's what the UK version of Escapology has to offer. (NOTE: The American CD track list is slightly different.) This album can be best-described as typical Robbie. It's his mixture of pop-driven songs that win over fans and highly opinionated tracks that might shock a first-time listener. He uses a variety of sounds and different genres; from the bluesy piano/guitar concoction Feel to the catchy acoustic self-appreciation cut Handsome Man. Also find a bit of disco (Hot Fudge), hard rock (Monsoon, Song 3, Cursed), mariachi (Me and My Monkey), grandiose Angels-esque choir style (Love Somebody), and simple unplugged (Nan's Song). While there is obvious experimentation with instruments, each song's lyrical content is unmistakably Robbie: brash, true, and clever. On the whole, the album is great. The highlight song for me was Something Beautiful, a great addictive pick-me-up. Since "Sing When..", it doesn't seem like Robbie has broken much new ground. He has maintained remarkable consistency between these two albums. His real test will be his next album. Since parting ways with his right-hand-man composer Guy Chambers, he's got to prove that he can carry on and still churn out hits. I hope this pressure works positively for him, pushing him to work hard to generate his best material ever. Again, we will have to see.
Free Music Review: Oh my dear he really can sing! Hit: 5 Stars
First of all I'm not a very big fan of Robbie, or it'd be more proper I said I wasn't because this album made me one of his. I was pretty suprised when I listened to Escapology not only because of the level of the music / at last he's got normal backup musicians / but it seems to me that he's finally learnt to sing.1. How peculiar 4/5 - Pretty good song with funny lyrics and wierd sound effects 2. Feel 5/5 - The 1st single with awesome lyrics and slow passionate rhythm 3. Something beautiful 5/5 - The 3rd single with fantastic light tempo and lyrics which will definitely cheer you up 4. Monsoon 4.5/5 - At first I couldn't get it but then I understood what it's all about... contains a part where he starts embarassing the grouppies. 5. Sexed up 5/5 - My second favourite song, reminds me with one of my previous relationships 6. Love somebody 5/5 - It gives me a feeling as if it was a remake but it can't be; quite good song wherein Robbie shows us what he's got / I mean his vocals :-) / 7. Revolution 4/5 - I haven't listened too much to this one, but the one who sings it with has a cool voice 8. Handsome man 6/5 - My absolute favourite not only beacuse it's perfectly done musically but as if this one had been written about my best friend. 9. Come Undone 5/5 - The remake of Duran-Duran's original though Robbie's better; oh, it's the 2nd single 10. Me and my monkey 4.5/5 - A fantastic song with very alternative lyrics though it becomes a lil' boring after 5 minutes 11. Song 4/5 - I don't know much about it...it must be good 12. Hot fudge 5/5 - I love this one!!! Has the tempo, the lyrics and EVERYTHING! 13. Cursed 4.5/5 - An okhay song with good backup 14. Nan's song 4/5 - Too short however it has very meaningful lyrics I hope I helped you!
Free Music Review: He never disappoints.. Hit: 5 Stars
Robbie Williams SHOULD BE FAMOUS IN THE USA! In some ways I'm glad he's not, because if the corporate wasteland of our music industry got hold of him, his music would probably start sounding just like everyone else's..That, thankfully, is NOT the case. This new CD is full of a variety of musical styles - the thumping bassline and absurd egotism of "Handsome Man" - the 70's disco/piano beat of "Hot Fudge" ('The holy ghost and the whole east coast are movin' to LA!). Feel, the first UK single, is also a highlight. One of my favorite things about RW's music is his honesty and quirky approach to lyrics (thanks in part to help from Guy Chambers) and he doesn't fail to deliver here.. This stuff is not nearly as pop-oriented as Sing When You're Winning (which is also an extremely good CD) and a departure from the swing of Swing When You're Winning, his last CD. I'd recommend both in addition to this CD, a great new collection of RW songs. If only he'd at least TOUR in the US..
