Free Music Notes for Escapology - Canadian Version (Different Tracks)Free Music Review: A Well Rounded and Diversified Collection Hit: 4 Stars
Mr. Williams has come of age with Escapology. Robbie has proven that a member of a Boy Band can grow mature and nurture. Escapology is a well rounded diverse collection of Pop Songs that are deep with feeling and broad with scope. Take a dash of Journey, add a hint of Dave Matthews and sprinkle with just a touch of Garth Brooks. Couple this with Robbie's strong unique voice and surely you finally have an excellent Pop Album that even the American Public will find palitable. This is a quality collection that deserves to be heard - especially by Justin Timberlake who's recent work pales by comparrison.
Free Music Review: Awesome Hit: 4 Stars
I'm a Californian and I have all six of Robbie's albums. This one is my #2 favorite (1st is Sing When You're Winning). The song "Always and Forever" is a beautiful, slow tempo song. "Sexed Up" is in that same vein; it's kind of sad if you understand what it's really about. If you like songs that are more uppity and pop, try "Hot Fudge" or "Monsoon". Great song and lyrics to sing along to! One of my favorite songs on the whole album is "Come Undone" which is his new single I think. It's very powerful and is true Robbie. The booklet also has cool photos. I hope Robbie tours America very soon!!!
Free Music Review: Total Robbie Hit: 4 Stars
Robbie Williams has made a great CD here. From beginning to end it is original, poppy and has that "Robbie " touch. In theory this CD is suppose to break the American charts. However, that is unlikely to happen. Even though the music is awesome, it still has a "Brit" feel to it and is somewhat reminscient of the Spice Girls. But if there is anyone out there looking for a great artist to turn to, or if you are a Robbie fan from way back, make sure you pick up this album.
Free Music Review: Not one of his best Hit: 4 Stars
He could do better. It was still a great album, although it didn't have the same spark as his others. Hot Fudge, Handsome Man, Feel and Me and my Monkey were among the best. He has a great strong voice and could do better. I hope his next album is able to launch him into the Canadian/American spotlight, he definetey deserves it. Nice try though, Robbie.
Free Music Review: Could Have Been So Much Better Hit: 3 Stars
I have been having a love affair with Robbie Williams music ever since I saw his tongue-in-cheek video for Millennium. His music, his style, and his presence had me hooked after I saw a mini-concert of his greatest hits on VH-1 in 2000. Unfortunately, his 1st American album, The Ego Has Landed (a compilation of songs from his first two U.K. albums Life Thru a Lens and I've Been Expecting You) did not go very far in the U.S. Robbie's lyrics were just too witty, sarcastic, and caustic for the typical pop music listener. His follow-up album, Sing When Youre Winning, was more of the same but with a more of a melancholy bent. Robbie was more introspective on this disc. With his latest offering, Escapology, one has to wonder from what he is trying to escape because this CD is full of the sounds and musings that made his previous albums hits abroad. Therein lies the problem.Escapology is ground Robbie has covered 4-times over. Hes thoughtful, hes brash, hes rude, hes introspective, hes bitter, he contemplates his fame, but he isnt bringing anything new to the table. The lyrics are drowned out by the overwhelming number of slow-tempo songs, and they all flow into one really long b**ch session. At the end of the album, you want to shout, "Wheres the fun, Robbie?" Compared to the VERY tried-n-true formula of American pop music flooding the airwaves in the U.S., Escapology is still head and shoulders above the rest in its originality and thoughtfulness. The standout tracks on disc are the soul/R&B-inspired duet "Revolution" (with Rose Stone), the mid-tempo ballad "Feel," the fun dance-rock song "Hot Fudge," and the slightly uplifting "Something Beautiful." "Me and My Monkey" steals a riff from the O-Jays "Backstabbers" and "Song 3" has a few guitar chords that are reminiscent of Nirvanas "Smells like Teen Spirit." The intro to "Cursed" sounds like the intro to the TV show Miami Vice. This album will probably disappoint current Robbie Williams fans, and make non-fans wonder what the big brouhaha was all about. Stick this disc on the shelf and buy his previous 4 albums (not counting the Frank Sinatra tribute "Swing When Youre Winning").
