Free Music Notes for Intensive Care

Free Music Review: **** Pleasantly surprised ****
Hit: 4 Stars

First off let me admit that I have been a fan of Robbie ever since Angels, which hardly makes me unique. Secondly, I genuinely believe that Robbie Williams is perhaps the greatest performer the UK has ever produced. However after his split from Guy Chambers who Robbie had once described as "as much a part of Robbie Williams as I am", I must confess i initially had my doubts about his future, particularly after hearing his subsequent singles, Radio and Misunderstood.

How wrong was I? With the release of Intensive Care, Robbie has vanquished all doubts about his credibility as a songwriter and emerged triumphant with what is almost certainly his most mature effort to date. And i don't see any road back for Mr Chambers now...

My favourite track is "Advertising Space" a ballad about Elvis Presley, you can almost see the video already,; clips of Elvis interspersed with Robbie singing earnestly. I love this track and maybe this will be the one to launch him in America, although for Mr Williams that might turn out to be a mixed blessing. Other stand out tracks include "Make Me Pure", "Tripping" "Please Don't Die", "Your Gay Friend" and "Sin, Sin, Sin". I think there are a couple of weaker tracks but there is also plenty of Rob's usual irony and self-deprecating wit and charm (and a little ham) on display here.

In summary, there is plenty here to keep his existing fan base happy and more than enough ammunition to silence the doubters and attract new fans. Oh and two potentially massive singles in "Make Me Pure" and "Advertising Space", although I'm sure other people will have different favourites. Four stars ****.

Free Music Review: Well done Robbie!
Hit: 4 Stars

If you haven't heard Robbie before, this album is perhaps going to disappoint you. However if you are already a fan of Robbie and know everything about his ups and downs in his music career, you'll love it.

This man has so many faces; he now comes up with an album which is kind of an experience of sorts. It is a sort of travel from evil to divine. Needless to say Robbie sounds a bit philosophical and has certainly matured not just as a singer but also as a songwriter. His association with Duffy has certainly worked wonders for him and may be this album will be the turning point of his once glorious career.

As far as the songs are concerned, they are good and really good. While some songs could have been a bit more "decent" (in all senses of the word), I guess fans won't complain, coz this man's ultimately the "greatest entertainer"!

Most certainly a must have for all Robbie fans. You must experience the reserruction this man is undergoing!

Free Music Review: Addictive and tasty
Hit: 4 Stars

Robbie Williams is like a drug: addictive, irresistible. He rips off every other pop and rock sound and, with Stephen Duffy, transforms it into intoxicating pop songs. He knows where his bread is buttered, but sometimes goes too far to ensure devotion. Straight women and gay men love Robbie, but he sometimes tries too hard for their vote. Each album has a requisite maudlin grandma song and gay romp, and they fail every time. Robbie does his best when he just crafts a tasty pop song. His lyrics either make you feel like he's writing just for you--or for himself. He's a much better rocker than he admits, and frequently his rocking tracks (like A Place to Crash) that he's tossed off are better than his carefully constructed dance tunes. Ultimately, Robbie won't ever be famous in the U.S. because he's too good. --A US fan since 1999

Free Music Review: Escapology, Volume II
Hit: 4 Stars

First of all, the single TRIPPING is one of the best singles Robbie ever made. So we could expect a very good album, written with a new partner. Instead of that, we get a carbon-copy of his previous album, ESCAPOLOGY. It's really the same type of contemporary pop/rock music with the same old ballads he should avoid now.
I hope someday he makes another SING WHEN YOU'RE WINNING type of album (his best so far - with more pop music than rock music)but for the moment Robbie has decided to stick with his rock and roll style.
It seems a bit dated by moment (seems like it was recorded in the eighties)but overall this is a good album by the world's biggest pop music record-seller.

Free Music Review: One of the great mysteries of life.
Hit: 4 Stars

That title refers to the mystery of why Robbie Williams is the biggest singing star in the world EXCEPT the US. I guess we are too busy lauding vapid "talent" like Mariah Carey and Eminem. Too bad for the US but if you want something fresh and not run of the mill - you could not do much better than Robbie Williams. His new cd marks a bit of a departure from his previous releases. He has a new collaborator in Stephen Duffy and has matured a bit as a songwriter. That's not to say that Robbie's signature branch of cheeky bravado isn't watered down - it is just infused with a new flavor. All in all a solid release.
