Free Music Review: THAT Robert Downey Jr., no way!
Hit: 5 Stars

When I ran across this album my first thought was, "Robert Downey Jr.?" Surely not the Robert Downey Jr. who's a brilliant actor but noted drug addict? But, sure enough, it is. After listening to the sample clips off this album, I was intrigued enough to buy the album. And I'm pleasantly surprised: It's very good if you like (as I do) slow, introspective, lyric-driven, rock (somewhere between Sting and John Mayer?). Downey's bluesy voice is full and soulful and the result is surprisingly pure, honest and mature. Downey's piano-playing on ocassion reveals a slight echo of a Billy Joel-Elton John early 80s lick, but like his voice, songwriting and interpretation, his performance on the piano also is solid. His songwriting is honest and self-revelatory: he's a poet with more than rhyming skills. And spending time strung-out and in jail provides plenty of grist for him to work with. What a surpirse. Now I know.

Free Music Review: A Work of Art from a Renaissance Man!
Hit: 5 Stars

The Futurist is a work of art! Robert Downey Jr. has shown himself to be a true Renaissance Man by adding his musical, artistic, and poetic talents to his brilliance as an actor! This debut CD is wonderful!!

These songs come from his heart and soul and have touched mine. The music draws me in, the lyrics intrigue me, and the unique singing style mesmerizes me. The Futurist slowly seeps into my soul - the more I listen to it, the more I am captivated! I find the music and ideas linger in my mind as they create fascinating images and compelling emotions.

Music is the universal language, and Robert Downey Jr. speaks to us all with his creative vision. The Futurist weaves a spell of magic, spreading its gauzy veil of sound and feeling, haunting us with its soulful beauty!

Free Music Review: The Futurist is refreshing and personal . . .
Hit: 5 Stars

Robert Downey Jr. has somethng to be proud of here. Rather than disect the man's music and emotion carried bare and honest but with rich musicianship on these tracks - listen with an open mind. His simple lyrics and strong and gravel sprinkled vocals are refreshingly original. I love this CD and will recommend it to friends. I understand this guy through his music now more than through his acting - maybe relating on a personal level with a son of my own, who is now clean and sober 7 years. I celebrate Mr. Downey's triumph and a fine collection of music - and the cover tunes fitly chosen. "Broken" and "Details" are intimate and musicially excellent. His cover of "Smile" was deliciously raspy and emotive - a good finish to a fine work.
Give this to a friend who feels things deeply or needs to.

Free Music Review: bare bones downey
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an amazing artful CD. I originally was hooked on Downey musically through his work on Ally McBeal. I was hoping he would record an album and was not disappointed. The majority of this album is written by Downey, and is written from his heart. This is Downey's tragic life, bare bones with no apologies. He shows us the horrors of addiction and the stuggle for recovery through the songs "man like me" and "broken". The album however does not focus solely on these things as there are many poetic songs about love and life such as "kimberly glide," "details" and "hannah". And of course this album includes Downey's haunting rendition of Charlie Chaplin's "smile". If you are looking for an artistic soulful album I highly reccommend this one.

Free Music Review: Great album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I didn't even know that Robert Downey, Jr. had put out an album or could even sing, and I have been a huge fan of him since Weird Science. I feel like I was living under a rock or something. I got this CD today and immediately listened to it in my car. I cannot believe how great this album is! It has become one of my all time favorites and one I can listen to from beginning to end without skipping a single song. Is there anything Robert Downey, Jr. can't do?! My favorite actor just became one of my favorite singers as well. His voice reminds me of a mix between Dave Matthews and Bruce Springsteen with Robert's own thing thrown in. In one word, perfection. That is just my opinion though of course. :)
