Free Music Review: A Great Discovery

I absolutely love this CD - especially the first two songs. In fact, I'd buy the album again just for those.
I had no idea that Mr. Downey sang until I saw the movie, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Though worth a rental, the movie wasn't as good as I'd hoped. But, my wife and I were so touched by the song, Broken, in the credits that we turned it up as loud as we could and listened silently. Half way through we realized it was Downey who was singing.
I now play the album over and over in my car and the stress of traffic disappears - beautiful instrumentals, and Downey's voice is as interesting and enticing as his acting. I truly hope he'll release another album.

Yes, I succumbed to the prejudice concerning actors who record albums and assumed that Downey's album would be mediocre at best and pretentious in general (sample Jeff Bridges' album for evidence to back up my prejudice), and for that I apologize to Mr. Downey. After hearing him on Letterman, however, I decided to listen to the samples, which led me to buy the album. It's a wonderful work.
And yes, I hear the Dave Matthews and the Billy Joel and the Sting and all the other musical references others have mentioned. But there is, in fact, plenty of his soul and his personality and his passion on display here. I've enjoyed this album very much and hope he continues to record.

Are you thinking," man, another actor who thinks he can sing".Then you have a surprise coming when you listen to The Futurist.
Robert Downey Jr is a very talented singer and musician. He has been singing and writing lyrics for years, most he kept hidden from the public. But with support and encouragement from family and friends, he offered to share his talent with us.
I am so glad he did.. You will not be disappointed. His lyrics are raw,tender,revealing and hopeful. His voice haunts you long after you turn the music off. "Man like Me" "Details" "Broken" and of course "Smile" are stand outs.
If you like Bruce Hornsby, Sting or Rod Stewart, you will like this cd.

I knew that Robert Downey Jr sang but didn't think much of it until his time on Ally McBeal, that is when I realized that this man can really sing and has a great style! I didn't give it much thought until he started performing on shows like The View and Late Night w/ Carson Daily..... this is when I was sold!! Not only is Robert an amazingly talented actor but he is a great musician and song-writer. This is an album that gives you a little insight on his life and you want to get to know him better while listening to it. It has been on my "heavy rotation" since I got it and have a feeling that it will stay that way for a while. I would recommend that everyone give it a chance.Free Music Review: Has not left my cd player since it came out...

After hearing Robert D. JR. sing "River" on Alley McBeal, I have been waiting for him to put out an album. With the release of "The Futurist" I was plesently suprised. I think it is amazing that this person who has done so many terrible things to him self (drugs, alcohol, etc.) created this music. The piano is beautiful. the title track is great, one of my favorites is the cover of "Your Move". Now, my hubby consideres me a terrible rock "snob", with most songs, I HATE when people do covers because 99.9% of the time they are not nearly as good as the origional, but Robert's cover of one of my favorite songs of all time is awsome! I highly reccomend this album!
