There's no doubting that Robert Downey Jr. is an accomplished actor, but now he has turned his creative attention to music and I'm so happy he did. Like all beautiful and worthwhile things, this CD gives a lot while asking for very little -- an open heart and mind. His singing is surprisingly good, his voice is soulful and substantial yet kind of edgy at the same time. It must have been fun for the producers to work with an actor with such vocal sensitivities. The Futurist is a fine piece of musicianship, has a mood of faint melancholy, beautifully poised on the edge of hope. If only he'd done one of the songs in a southern accent I'd be in heaven...Free Music Review: One of the BEST CD's you will EVER buy!!!

Of course, like everyone else, when I heard that Downey, Jr. had a CD out I wondered what on earth he was thinking. However, being a huge fan of his, I bought it as soon as it was released. That was several months ago, and that CD honestly has not left my CD player yet! His lyrics are sometimes hard to follow, but they are very deep and thought-provoking...better than the cookie-cutter lyrics we so often hear from more "well-known" singers. This has become one of my ALL TIME favorite CD's. I had no idea he was so talented! I would recommend that if you buy just one CD this year, let it be this one! I too, stumbled across this when it first came out, while at a store looking to see what was new. I had seen and heard him on "Ally McBeal", so I knew it was worth a try. Love it! I have turned several friends and family members on to it as well.
His voice is great and just right for the beautiful songs he wrote. I also love his version of "Your Move". And a guy playing the piano,....love it! How therapeutic the whole experience must have been for him. I also love him as an actor and wish him all the best. I'd also love to hear more from him. Robert, are you reading this ??

Robert Downey Jr. is a talented and gifted actor, and singer. His voice is a cross between Sting & Bruce Springsteen. His new CD The Futurist is well put together and enjoyable to listen to. The songs all written by him (except for 2) and performed by him and a back-up of wonderful musicians and singers are creative and all tell a story. The album is jazzy & bluesy and I recommend it all who want to listen to a talented man who has come along way, especially with his courage to fight the addiction he had and finding someone who supports him in this fight. Buy it, you won't regret it.
