Free Music Notes for The FuturistFree Music Review: Beautiful music to daydream or drive to Hit: 5 StarsI have never seen a RDJ movie, and have only seen him in numerous tv talk show appearences. I saw him play the piano and sing on a couple while promoting this album. I was impressed. Yes, his dreamy looks help get the initial attention, but the music draws you in further. I love the jazzy sound of the bass, guitars, and piano. This CD takes you to another place, I sit back and relax while listening to this. I love to pop this baby into the car's cd player--great to drive to. An interesting addition to anyone's collection--no matter the type of music fan you are.
Free Music Review: I bought this album, thus I will give it 5 stars Hit: 5 StarsThis album is great!! I totally paid for it, and now out of a sense of obligation I will go on Amazon.com and give it a glowing 5-star review. 3 or 4 stars won't do, this is a total 5-star effort and since I paid for this album I need to bloster my opinion of it by reading other people's 5-Star reviews. And if someone dare give this album a BAD REVIEW (probably people who didn't buy this album and thus have no reason to defend it's purchase,) I will simply click 'no' on the "was this review helpful" button!! Yeah!
Free Music Review: Has not left my cd player since it came out... Hit: 5 StarsAfter hearing Robert D. JR. sing "River" on Alley McBeal, I have been waiting for him to put out an album. With the release of "The Futurist" I was plesently suprised. I think it is amazing that this person who has done so many terrible things to him self (drugs, alcohol, etc.) created this music. The piano is beautiful. the title track is great, one of my favorites is the cover of "Your Move". Now, my hubby consideres me a terrible rock "snob", with most songs, I HATE when people do covers because 99.9% of the time they are not nearly as good as the origional, but Robert's cover of one of my favorite songs of all time is awsome! I highly reccomend this album!
Free Music Review: Cactus Angel Hit: 3 StarsThere are a lot of people who obviously have connected with this CD. While I don't hate it, neither do I find it engaging. I think some may be prejudiced against actors singing, but actors are entertainers & should be good at many things. (I still pull out my old Keith Carradine lp's from time to time!) Mostly my complaint is not with Downey the singer but with Downey the songwriter. I applaud his adventurous attempt to branch out with his career. Hearing "River" from the Ally McBeal CD certainly piqued my curiosity for this work. However, most of the songs come across as faceless to me. Some of the playing is excellent. For example on "Kimberly Glide" Reggie Hamilton's bass thumps all over the place and gives the track an interesting energy. Downey's lyrics just don't quite resonate, "Kimmy just smiles, wants to stay forever; I'd have her but we know that's just a word we wish we'd never heard when we're together, says she must return to cactus angels." "Cactus angels" is a beautiful image, but the rest of the track is mundane. On the title track, Downey gets some momentum going with "our furious, curious, fantasist code," but there's not much of a melody on which to hang the lyric. For me, the outstanding track is his cover of Yes' "Your Move" with Jon Anderson joining on vocals and the great background vocals. This is a stellar track, outstanding! So if there's a future for "the futurist," it's to vary the tempos a bit more and improve the material. This CD is square in the middle, neither dreadful, neither brilliant. Next!
Free Music Review: OMG Just Incredible Hit: 5 StarsI have always love Robert Downey Jr., he is talented, funny, handsome, etc. But I never new he could sing and play piano. I found this CD by chance and I listened to some of the songs and figured I would try it. Well my husband and I cannot stop listening to it, and now everyone loves it. Robert Downey Jr. wrote all of the songs expect Your Move (written and sung by Yes) and Smile (written by Charles Chaplin). Just Incredible. "Your Move" is just wonderful. But my favorite song is Man Like Me. Just awesome.
