Free Music Notes for Mighty Rearranger AlbumFree Music Review: Robert Plant Shines Again Hit: 3 StarsAs with all ageing musicians, we must ask ourselves a question: In 2005, is there a place in music for Robert Plant? The answer is a definite yes! The former Led Zeppelin frontman has gone a step beyond most men still going from his era and delivered a solid album in the new millenium. Paul McCartney hasn't made an album this strong since the 80's and The Rolling Stones would love to get their hands on this material.
As ever Plant fuses mysticism and poetry with music. "Another Tribe" is a quiet opener driven by an acoustic guitar and a fine example of Plant's trademark poetic lyrics. "Tin Pan Valley" in particular is a beautifully written song, blended with some Beck-esqu computer effects before winding into a heavy song with Plant in full on screaming mode. Better yet is "Shine It All Around", where Plant's voice soars with incredibly scope and clarity and the blues-y "Let The Four Winds Blow" is equally brilliant. Less Impressive though is "The Enchanter", with a lazy blues riff and a rigid melody. "Dancing In Heaven" too is just ok, but this is an album that's successes far outweight it's failures.
There are a few Zep-esqe numbers. "Freedom Fries" for example is a decent rocker, though Strange Sensation guitarist Liam "Skin" Tyson is no Jimmy Page so there are none of the monstrous riffs that used to drive Plant. In contrast "All The King's Horses" could have come straight off the largely folky "Led Zeppelin III". The entirely acoustic song is a highlight.
The album ends on a high. The short "Brother Ray" is a live jamming session with Plant singing "whooo!" and sounding like the happiest man in the world. Keep shining Bob.
