Free Music Review: Classic Christmas Recordings

This cd contains some classic christmas recordings that are the favorite of many. It consists of songs from two albums from 1957 and 1963 by the ROBERT SHAW CHORALE (one of the most famous and greatest if not the greatest, chorus' ever). This cd is a mix of medleys and solo songs by themselves. The medley songs have a wonderful and large orchestra backing while the solo songs by themselves are done acapella (just singing, no music). The songs are all religious christmas songs. And the songs are all first class, there is no flaws in any of them that I can tell, hence why these songs are classic recordings that are the favorite of many.
The first song is in medley form and is a highlight for me here, especially the song PATAPAN. The orchestra is used very strongly here and together with one of the greatest chorus' of all-time (perhaps event he greatest), PATAPAN is just awesome.
Two acapella songs elsewhere on the cd are also highlights, they are IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR and CAROL OF THE BELLS. Though they may sound similar to some other versions, they are still very nicely done.
But my #1 highlight on this cd is O COME O COME EMMANUEL. This is also done acapella style and the chorus performs one of the most powerful christmas songs I've ever heard. The workings between the female part and the male part, when they sing together or back the other gender up, is something words can't describe. This is easily my favorite version of the song and I've read elsewhere that others have said this also.
This is a great cd to put on as backing christmas music for your christmas festivities such as while opening gifts on christmas day or entertaning guests/family during the christmas season.
