Free Music Notes for Bridge of Sighs (Exp)Free Music Review: UNREAL and one of the best of the best blues rock recording of all time Hit: 5 Stars
After owning this superior album from the first month is was released in America, I played it until the grooves wore out. I never did tire of the title cut 'Bridge Of Sighs' and played drums to it religiously in my basement all year. I was actually already into progressive rock but this album always stayed in my collection as one of the the best of the best blues rock(and even rock)releases of all time. I didn't even love the blues, as all the guitarists I ever knew back in 70's thru 90's were always blues grown. I wanted to meet some Robert Fripp, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Howe, Steve Hackett, and Anthony Phillips inspired guitarists. I digress. Okay, so I bought the CD of Robin Trower 'Bridge of Sighs' shortly after it came out. It was still magical and I relived the passion and outright groove to the heart, that this disc gave me from the initial vinyl purchase back in High School. NOW this remastered and expanded version. WOW!!!!!! I got a entirely new high on it. As a good music buddy of mine used to exclaim loudly when he heard a record that blew his mind.. THAT's HELL!!!!!!
So here I am with this newly remastered and superbly expanded CD with 8 more tracks on it than the original. WOW!!(again). I have listened to this with Musical Fidelity X-Can V3 headphone amp thru Beyer DT 990 Pro (250 ohm) headphones, and then thru my big system of Moon Equinox SE CD player, Magnum Dynalab 308 Integrated Amp, Triangle Celius 6 way speakers with rear port, all with Cardas interconnects and speaker cable.. etc. And WHEW!!! This new edition of the Robin Trower 'Bridge of Sighs' CD is just simply mind blowing, has never sounded better...EVER!! I am happy to be alive!! If I had just met a guitarist that sounded anything close to Robin I would have been in heaven playing drums with him. Now I just dream. But dream along with this fantastic CD!! THIS IS THE ONE!!!! Take a trip with this and see what I mean. You'll never hear music like this again. A++++++++ recommendation for life!
Free Music Review: One of the greatest albums EVER Hit: 5 Stars
Robin Trower's BRIDGE OF SIGHS goes down as one of the greatest albums ever, in my opinion. It's easily in the top five blues albums of all time, as well. When listening to this album, it's easy to get mesmerized and drawn into the slow, easy bluesy-cold mood that this album establishes. It starts out with the perfect kicker (Day of the Eagle) which is an up-tempo starter that eventually slows down near the end. The next track, Bridge of Sighs, can easily be fused together with In this Place (the 3rd track). Bridge of Sighs is my second favorite song of all time, behind Are you Experienced? by Jimi Hendrix. Bridge of Sighs/In this Place put you into a trance with their slow bluesy beats. The sounds of wind blowing only add to the mood, and one just has to think that this is what the blues are all about. The next song (The Fool and Me) is straight blues with a catchy guitar riff to start things off. The next track (Too Rolling Stoned) is another classic of sorts, but not really one of my favorites on the album. Instead, I like About to Begin, which is another slower, more hypnotic song that has similarities to the title track. Lady Love is another song that deserves praise, as it's more up-tempo, yet still bluesy with the guitar solo. The last track (Little Bit of Sympathy) starts off with a crushing riff going into straight rocking blues. This album is a healthy balance of all facets of the blues, and is a must-have for anyone who loves the blues. The other part of the CD (the bonus tracks) are very nice to have, but I'm more focused on the original stuff from the initial release. This album never loses its appeal. I can play it any day, and still get the same enjoyment out of it. 10/10
Free Music Review: Dreamy and Powerful Hit: 5 Stars
Robin Trower is a man who really understood music. Formally in Procol Harum which was known for its classical influences, and its helping hand in establishing what would be known as progressive rock. After joining a short lived super group (Jude), Trower finally released a solo album "Twice Removed From Yesterday" in 1973. Now we advance a year further and "Bridge of Sighs" is finally released.
Bridge of Sighs opens with "Day of The Eagle", a track that's fiery and definitely Hendrix influenced. While similar guitar wise with the bluesy funky chords, one can notice strong vocal differences. The actual track "Bridge of Sighs" opens with a jingly sound leading to a warm euphoric guitar. So calming and memorable of a track. "In This Place" is just as dreamy, but with more complex guitar. Bits of the vocal melody remind me of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" from their 1970 hit album "Paranoid".
The album swings back into gear with the rocking "The Fool and Me". "Too Rolling Stoned" just grooves from the dry drum and tight single coil strat sounding intro, to the later wah licks. The song is long and fairly progressive. I swear I hear ambient voices in the last minute of the song, could never really decipher it. The guitar tone is just astounding, and how the bends and vibratos sound, this album really speaks.
Robin Trower-Bridge of Sighs, a must buy. Bluesy and rocking, an album with strong variety. Slow progressing tunes and rocking gems, an album that can't be forgotten once herd.
Free Music Review: IT HAS NO EQUAL! GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME!! Hit: 5 Stars
Bridge of Sighs has never left my turntable, eight track, cassette, CD, MP3 since it's release. This album stands alone as the ultimate blues rock guitar heaven of all time. Every track simply melts. This album is the masterpiece of testosterone-driven, alpha male energy the makes your blood boil. When the lyrics and guitar licks don't drive you into a frenzy "Day Of The Eagle" Too Rolling Stoned" " Little Bit Of Sympathy" then the slow bluesy soulful melodies of "In this Place" and "About to Begin" are like an arm-full of Heroin without the downside. James Dewar is the most under appreciated vocalists of the century and he, like Robin are SO LONG OVERDUE FOR THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. It is impossible to think that a singer could have the power to stand up to and equal Robin's timeless guitar but Dewar pulls it off. This is a must own album and its remaster absolutely shines. The extra tracks are an extra slice of cheese cake. A Must Own to any serious rock aristocrats collection.
Free Music Review: Ultimate 70's Trio Rock Album ever made! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the ultimate trio rock album
full of great riffs, singing & playing.
Robin Trower known for his guitar work
but not really his songs but this album
is just a monster. Many compare him to
Hendrix but I was never a fan of either
more into more of Deep Purple Burn or
that type of rock but my brother had
this on 8-track & I loved these songs.
I just got this & can't stop listening.
My favorite Day of the Eagle & Lady Love
are just killers & any rock fan should
have in collection. Bridge of Sighs is
brilliant & Little Bit of Sympathy are
classics. The singer is just fantastic.
His vocals is like Paul Rodgers but some
deep groovy sound that just kills. One of
the most best singers of the 70's. The
bonus tracks like Aletha are great too.
If you like trio hard rock this is for you.
