Free Music Review: The missing link between Jimi and Eddie.

Robin Trower provides the missing link between Jimi Hendrix and Eddie VanHalen. He was able to mix a soulful, almost funky, groove (which is what Jimi was leading towards before his untimely death) with straight up rock technics, such as what Jimi pioneered and what Eddie perfected. The best example of this combination of styles is on BRIDGE OF SIGHS. The Stax-like wah-wah and chicken scratching guitar on songs like Too Rolling Stoned and Little Bit Of Sympathy help to give these songs, as well as Lady Love, The Fool and Me, and the title track, a groove that was missing in most 70's metal/hard rock. Later albums such as FOR EARTH BELOW and IN CITY DREAMS would de-emphasize the rock portion of the mix, while his first album, TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTURDAY was more of a psychedelic/blues mix. Only on BRIDGE OF SIGHS did Trower acheive the mix that Hendrix sought after, but never realy acheived. Highly RecommendedWas Trower a Hendrix rip-off? I prefer to think of him as keeping the faith until the next generation of guitar heroes could take over. Eddie VanHalen, The Edge, and Steve Vai, among others, owe him.
