Free Music Review: Need Help
Hit: 5 Stars

I hear the first batch usa version has two second silent gaps between each cut and the uk version doesn't. If anybody orders a copy from amazon usa let me know. The second usa batch the gaps are supposably taken out... Have to rate this?? Well I'm a five star fan of robin trower, so five stars. Don't know about this cd though.

Free Music Review: Very good despite the annoying gaps
Hit: 4 Stars

Like others who have already commented on it, I think whoever prepared the final market release of this CD needs a good kick you know where. Totally inexcusable to have 2-second gaps between every track; it really ruins the flow, especially where one note sustains from the end of one track to the beginning of the next.

But let's not get TOO carried away and overlook the fact that this is a wonderful live recording. Trower's Strat sounds as glorious as it ever did. The rhythm section is solid, if not spectacular; a really flashy rhythm section would only get in the way of Trower's guitar anyway. Davey Pattison's voice will never be James Dewar's voice, and we've all accepted that long ago. I'm starting to give him a bit more slack, and honestly, he doesn't sound half bad here.

One of my favorite tracks on here is a revamped (and much improved) version of "Go My Way." It's quite different from the album version, and is now a great mid-tempo funky blues grind. Nice to hear "Shame the Devil" back in the set, too. The videos are nice, but nowhere near the quality of the "Living Out Of Time" live DVD.

For me, this version of "Bridge Of Sighs" is a tad long at 15 minutes... but some folks seem to really dig it, so to each his own.

The one thing that matters most with any Trower recording is: how does that Strat sound? Well, it sounds freakin' amazing. You want more of that sweet tone? Look no further than this album!

Free Music Review: Amazing Underated Guitar Player
Hit: 4 Stars

Just recieved this live Robin Trower Cd today. And I really enjoy it very much. Been playing it all day long, Yes the two second gaps in between songs does kinda of suck, but overall the selection of songs and the playing is simply amazing. Having seen Robin play in NYC from this 2008 cd set and seeing him again this coming September 2009, I can tell you that Trower is one of the best Guitar players ever, but yet he is never mentioned with the greats such as Beck, Clapton, EVH, Satriani, and I can't understand why not. IMO Trower blows Clapton away and always has. I would love to see a jam with Trower and Beck now that folks would be a Show.

Free Music Review: two second gap
Hit: 4 Stars

The music on this cd is great, having just seen trower on may 26 it was a perfect buy for me.But the two second gap at the end of each song doesn`t make sense.bridge of sighs is my favorite song on this.A 15 min song that has that long dream like feel to it.

Free Music Review: Slapped Together On the Cheap
Hit: 3 Stars

As a fan of Robin Trower since his days with Procol Harum, I was somewhat surprised and taken aback by the shambolic quality of this CD which seems to have been slapped together on the cheap and issued only as a way to generate funds. That seems to be the most common complaint among reviewers and the fact that so many are complaining should serve notice on the band to be more careful with future releases.
Beyond that, fans will notice immediately that RT@RO.08 leans heavily on Robin Trower's earlier and better known solo work. That is fine, but it lacks the most important element: James Dewar on vocals. For that reason, I think that the show should have concentrated on featuring more modern material that fits Davey Pattison's vocal style better. All the old songs just don't have the punch they had when Dewar sang.
OK, so Dewar isn't here but there still is a lot to enjoy if you concentrate on the music itself. My favorites on disc 1 are For Earth Below, The Fool and Me, Day of the Eagle, an elongated and quite spectacular Bridge of Sighs, Gonna Be More Suspicious, Hannah, and A Little Bit of Sympathy. On the all too brief disc 2 I most enjoyed Go My Way. Too Rolling Stoned was curiously castrated and overall the second disc has the feel of being just an afterthought.
This 2-disc set is accompanied by an attractive but oddly brief booklet that features some useful album information and some pictures. If you are a Trower completeist, then naturally you will want to own this. But RT@RO.08 is far from essential and stands as somewhat of an embarrassment in the face of the much better quality of other modern Trower releases.
