Free Music Notes for Luminous Groove

Free Music Review: A Must-Have for Hitchcock Fans
Hit: 5 Stars

I already had most of the original albums that made up the previous "I Wanna Go Backwards" Hitchcock box set, so I gave that one a miss. But "Luminous Groove" contains three albums that have been out of print for a long time and hard to find even used. So as soon as I heard it was coming out, I pre-ordered, on the basis of just the three re-issued albums. I didn't know that there would be two additional bonus disks! So, between three excellent re-issues, the bonus tracks on those disks, and the "live" and "studio" bonus disks, I am absolutely delighted. Whether you like the sparse, quirky Hitchcock of "I Often Dream of Trains" or the more slick and elaborate wierdness of the A&M albums, you'll find this set, which occupies the middle ground historically and musically, enjoyable.

Free Music Review: That's actually 4.8 stars rounded up
Hit: 5 Stars

It's worth it just for "A Bad Case of History, Disc 1," which is a collection of lost and thoroughly wonderful stuido tracks. I would like to remove 0.2 stars from my rating for the tracks "Dwarfbeat" and "The Can Opener," which are mysteriously missing from this set's versions of "Fegmania!" and "Element of Light," respectively. Why, why, why must we always get these boxed sets that are supposedly "comprehensive," but are always missing one or two tracks? Grrrr! Good set, but hang onto your old Rhino releases, too!

Free Music Review: Yep Roc scores again...
Hit: 5 Stars

Perfection. Can't wait for the next set, presumably a Soft Boys collection. Brilliant packaging. The double-disc of b-sides and rarities alone almost justifies the price, and of course the albums themselves, "Fegmania", "Gotta Let This Hen Out" and "Element of Light" are all wonderful, amazing records. Make haste Yep Roc, and bring us the Soft Boys box!

Free Music Review: Well Worth It!
Hit: 5 Stars

Oh my god!

I forgot how great these albums are. I have been an uber-fan of his for over 20 years. The man never disappoints.

If you are on the fence, get off of it and buy this.

If for nothing else, the live Egyptians (disc 5) shows just how tight they were.

The man is a genius.

Free Music Review: Lots of Robyn
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great collection to have if you are looking to buy one of his box sets. This is what I consider the better half of the two boxes. I just like this albums in this one a bit more than the other one. Robyn has been around for quite some time, and his music never gets old.
