Free Music Review: The People Who Had The Goods on Rockabilly Music

I discovered the Rock'n Roll Trio in 1995 when I sighed a song I wrote with Henry Jerome, who managed the The Trio. I was curious since Henry's name appeared on a lot of sheet music that I played when I was teaching myself guitar. So, I bought an LP of the Trio's and then realized that the songs this group recorded were the roots of rock'n roll. This album is loaded with "feel" and that is what Johnny Burnette and the Rock'n Roll Trio accomplished. Their attitude was that they did not want to record music to out-do one another, no ego trips, they just wanted to have some fun and explore their talents. When you listen to songs such as "Lonesome Tears in My Eyes", I want you to listen to the lead break that Paul Burleson does. This song was recorded by the Beatles on their Live from the BBC album. Now, when you listen to this song, you hear a riff that Paul Burleson created, which The Beatles later used on the song, The Ballad of John and Yoko. Actually, the riff appears as The Ballad of John and Yoko ends. Johnny Burnette's vocals and screaming into the mic is the same exact things that rock bands do today. Dorsey Burnette's bass lines and guitar playing are the foundation for the steady rock rhythms people use today. Buy this CD and you will agree that if this group did not happen, then Rock'N Roll music may not have evolved as effectively as it has today. Oh, before I forget, listen to the song on the 20th track called, If You Want it Enough. They recorded this song along the time when Elvis started. However, The Trio were first to actually have the "Elvis sound" if you would, and I know that Elvis learned from Johnny Burnette and the Rock'N Roll Trio. Elvis also recorded a song that The Trio wrote called, You're Undecided. Ok, so stop undeciding, and decide!! Buy Rockabilly Boogie (Bear).

To Golden Age aficionados, this Memphis combo, comprised of brothers Johnny and Dorsey Burnette and visionary lead guitarist Paul Burlison, are the great lost rockabilly group of all time. Contemporaries of Elvis, the Burnettes scored a record contract after going to New York and winning top prize on the Ted Mack's Amateur Hour TV show (the Star Search of its day). This collection of their 1956 recordings contains the rawest, purest rockabilly ever made.
