Free Music Notes for Rocky Horror Picture Show (Dlx) AlbumFree Music Review: nice try... but missed the boat Hit: 1 Stars
This Anniversary edition CD does not feel like it was put together by someone with an affection, or even an understanding, of the movie. It is great that they finally added the songs that were missing from the original soundtrack like "Sword Of Damoclese" sung by Rocky, and the song "Once In Awhile" sung by Brad (which, although filmed, never made it into the final cut of the movie). The addition of some dialogue from the movie is nice as well... but most of it feels as though it was chosen by someone who never actually saw the movie with an audience, and didn't realize that we usually yell at the narrarator to "shut-up" and call him "boring". I can live with that... but what on earth possessed them to cut out half a song right in the middle? The song "Planet, Schmanet, Janet (Wise Up Janet Weiss)" is supposed to segue into "You're A Hot Dog"... instead it just ends abruptly at the crescendo. I guess that either the people putting this CD together over at Rhino had never seen the movie, thought the song was over and stopped recording, or they just didn't like that part. I am also disappointed with the fact that they apparently didn't bother going to the actor's original master recordings of the songs for either "Sword Of Damoclese" or "Planet, Schmanet, Janet (Wise Up Janet Weiss)". Both of these songs appear to have been recorded directly from the actual film as they include sound effects and background noise. I did that years ago with a VCR and a cassette recorder! I expected far more of a professionaly released, special edition CD. Whatever the reasons may be... I am really unimpressed with the whole thing. This CD comes across as a real hack job, made without much effort or forethought, and one of the first examples I have ever seen of a lousy re-issue from Rhino.
