Free Music Notes for Rocky Horror Picture Show (Dlx)Free Music Review: nice try... but missed the boat Hit: 1 Stars
This Anniversary edition CD does not feel like it was put together by someone with an affection, or even an understanding, of the movie. It is great that they finally added the songs that were missing from the original soundtrack like "Sword Of Damoclese" sung by Rocky, and the song "Once In Awhile" sung by Brad (which, although filmed, never made it into the final cut of the movie). The addition of some dialogue from the movie is nice as well... but most of it feels as though it was chosen by someone who never actually saw the movie with an audience, and didn't realize that we usually yell at the narrarator to "shut-up" and call him "boring". I can live with that... but what on earth possessed them to cut out half a song right in the middle? The song "Planet, Schmanet, Janet (Wise Up Janet Weiss)" is supposed to segue into "You're A Hot Dog"... instead it just ends abruptly at the crescendo. I guess that either the people putting this CD together over at Rhino had never seen the movie, thought the song was over and stopped recording, or they just didn't like that part. I am also disappointed with the fact that they apparently didn't bother going to the actor's original master recordings of the songs for either "Sword Of Damoclese" or "Planet, Schmanet, Janet (Wise Up Janet Weiss)". Both of these songs appear to have been recorded directly from the actual film as they include sound effects and background noise. I did that years ago with a VCR and a cassette recorder! I expected far more of a professionaly released, special edition CD. Whatever the reasons may be... I am really unimpressed with the whole thing. This CD comes across as a real hack job, made without much effort or forethought, and one of the first examples I have ever seen of a lousy re-issue from Rhino.

Love the movie, love the songs, hate this compact disc.An earlier reviewer read my mind exactly when they insinuated that this sounds like a tape recorder set up in front of a television playing said film. Honestly it must be said - what a piece of rubbish. Very weak effort indeed. Did Richard have a hand in this? Couldn't have surely. What were the powers that be thinking? Half the cd time is just dialogue from the film. One has to cue through the dialogue at the start of each track to get to every damn song!! Why didn't the makers of this... thing, use the origional master tapes like the're supposed to? Here's your answer; Given the little expenditure, effort and time put into making this record it will make someone a small fortune, so it was certainly a brilliant, albiet discusting and I'm tempted to say downright dishonest and, more significantly, exploitive (given the popularity of the film) but undoubtably successful money making idea. Talk about cutting corners; I could't believe it when I played it. What you get for your money is nothing more than an audio edit of the film. My god you can hear all the clunking/dancing/props being knocked around all over the place. It's gross, it sounds appalling. It contains an origional trailer but no, it's not a video but just a audio track, and a totally poor recording at that. It's just ridiculous. Mr O'Brien would be rolling over in his grave if he were in one to see such treatment of his precious baby.

Free Music Review: If you want something visual that's not too abysmal... Hit: 1 Stars
...buy something else. This CD is a let-down from start to finish. Note the following important factors: 1) it IS NOT the complete soundtrack. Sword of Damocles and Planet Schmanet Janet are taken straight from the film's soundtrack, complete with bad sound quality and sound effects. Planet Schmanet Janet is of course, as always, missing the "Plant Hot Dog" part. 2) Sword of Damocles, Over at the Frankenstein Place, and The Time Warp are missing parts (granted, SoD and OatFP never had those parts recorded, but they could have still given us the "vocal-less" verse for us to sing along with. 3) Each track is loaded with snippets of dialog from the movie, not just the song. No offense, but if I want to hear dialog from the movie, I'LL WATCH THE MOVIE! This track listing here is somewhat misleading, as there are no "untitled" tracks, the CD cover is just labeled wrong. In fact, there are 19 tracks. In short, it's nothing more than a badly doctored version of the original soundtrack. You're better off buying that and saving your money on this dud.
Free Music Review: PAGES WERE WATER STAINED AND WAVY Hit: 1 Stars
I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THE BOOK OF MUSIC I RECEIVED. THE PAGES HAD OBVIOUSLY GOTTEN WET AND DRIED, SO THE BOOK WAS ALL OUT OF SHAPE. WHEN TRYING TO COPY IT TO MAKE AN EXTRA ONE FOR MY ACCOMPANIST, IT CONSTANTLY GOT STUCK IN THE MACHINE AND IT TOOK FOREVER TO GET THE COPYING DONE. THIS BOOK WAS IN TERRIBLE SHAPE AND I WASTED A LOT OF MONEY TRYING TO COPY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I WILL NEVER NEVER BUY A USED COPY AGAIN AS A RESULT. I LEARNED MY LESSON, BUT THE SELLER OF THE BOOK SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR MISREPRESENTATION.!!!!!!
