Free Music Review: Many thanks, Mr. Stewart
Hit: 5 Stars

The venerable, durable rock/pop icon, Rod Stewart delivers a suprisingly sumptuous and elegant rendering of some of America's finest popular songs. Mr. Stewart negotiates the ingenious melodies and fervent lyrics featured in the "Great American Songbook" with unexpected deftness and delicacy. His vocal range is much broader than I had expected. He can hit those soaring high notes with pinpoint accuracy.

I have always liked Rod Stewart as a rock/pop performer, but with this new release, he has earned my utmost admiration in daring to tackle such timeless compositions as "The Way You Look Tonight", "I'll Be Seeing You", "That's All", and several other incomparable songs.

Mr. Stewart's vocals are greatly enhanced by the marvelous orchestra and the lush arrangements.

I only wish that songs of this musical and emotional depth were regularly written today. Unfortunately, they are not. But at least Mr. Rod Stewart is still around. With his latest CD, this classy, risk-taking artist has shown us how startling and transforming a beautiful, intricate melody or a poetic, heartfelt lyric can be. For that, many thanks, Mr. Stewart.

Free Music Review: A Crowd Stopper
Hit: 5 Stars

In March of 2003, my wife and I were browsing a neat store in Ft. Lauderdale on Las Olas Blvd. We met in an aisle, and said simultaneously, "Do you hear the music they are playing?" Two people close by said, "It's great. Who is it?" I suggested that it was Rod Stewart and the store owner confirmed it, said that they were getting more comments than anything they have played in a long time--all of them positive. We bought it, all of us bought a copy, and it is great. A couple of the tracks are almost over-styled, but part of that is pure Rod Stewart and part of the fun. Several of the tracks are purely magic, and two or three are so good that you'd swear they were written for him. If Cole Porter can hear him do 'Every time we say goodbye', he's gotta' be saying, "perfect." The production is smooth and well thought out; even the song order feels right. If you aren't a Rod Stewart fan but love the classic American Songbook of the 30's and 40's, this could change your mind about him. For those of us who have always liked his music, this is just great. Buy it. If you don't like it, give it to a friend--they'll probably love it.

Free Music Review: All Grown Up
Hit: 5 Stars

Having been a Rod Stewart fan for about 25+ years and having (I think) everything he's ever recorded (some actually on vinyl)I would have bought this CD just to keep my collection intact.

I've also seen him perform live on many occasions and never came away disappointed.

One reviewer mentioned that Rod's voice isn't what it used to be and I'd have to agree. However, given the material on this CD his voice is just about perfect.

Who cares if he can't scream out a lyric the way he used to. In an era of aging rockers with aging voices it refreshing to find one who isn't embarassing himself.

The material in this collection needs no apologies and it does sound like Rod's been singing these songs for many years. We should all sound this good!

After being an avid rocker in my younger days I've found my own tastes in music changing to something mellower the past few years. To find one of my all-time favorites thinking along the sames lines was a very pleasant surprise.

Now let's see if Jagger, Daltrey et al will follow suit. It's pretty funny watching them on stage these days. I wonder of their drug of choice is now Celebrex? :-)

Free Music Review: S'wonderful !
Hit: 5 Stars

I love it! I am a very hip 73 year old, who hates Rap, and all the wierd music you hear now, and when they sing, you can't understand the words, (especially when one of these non-singers attempt to sing the Star Spangled Banner -- they absolutely murder it! It's our National Anthem and should be treated with respect!!!) --- you sure could understand every word Frank Sinatra sang, and Dean Martin, and Garth Brooks (I'm a big fan) and you could dance to them, and the Beatles were great, as well as Elvis, but I wouldn't watch the Grammys if they paid me! When I bought Rod's CD, my youngest daughter couldn't believe I was buying something by Rod Stewart --- well even she (40ish) thinks its great, and she likes Madonna, whom I'm not fond of -- wouldn't recognize a song of her's if I heard it, but then I like Billy Joel, and I like cassical music, country , Blues, Dixieland, and some Jazz! This CD of Rods tho is the best --- I am in a Rehab group at our local hospital as I have asthma (most of my life), and they love it there! I have asked my husband for Songbook #2 for Valentines day! It' a 5 star winner in my book!

Free Music Review: Romance the Way It Used To Be
Hit: 5 Stars

Don't let Rod Stewart's name or his singing style turn you away from this CD. You are in for a stunning shock at how good this CD really is. It has the most fabulous collection of romantic songs ever written. It is perfect for dancing, dining, and setting the mood for romance. Remember Johnny Mathis's "That's All" - well, it's in there. "Moon Glow" from the movie Picnic...it's in there, too. "It Had To Be You", "The Nearness Or You", "The Way You Look Tonight"...songs you would never in a million years think Rod Stewart would even know or be interested in recording! This is a Rod Stewart we never knew existed. The guy is a die-hard romantic. The orchestrations are extremely sophisticated and smooth as silk. His voice is the same, so don't expect Sinatra. But, it is just such a wonderful shock that his kind of voice handles these songs so perfectly. First rate all the way. I can't say enough good things about it, and no one could be more surprised than I am. I hope he'll be recording more like this in the future, because I miss this kind of music a lot. Now, go out and buy it!!
