Free Music Notes for It Had to Be You... The Great American SongbookFree Music Review: BRAVO, ROD STEWART! Hit: 5 Stars
What a magnificent CD! Rod Stewart certainly has captured the flavor of "Fred and Ginger." I am not a "rocker" fan. It was quite by accident that I came across this CD. The album's title is what attracted me and after listening to a few samples, I decided to take a chance and order a copy. Well, ever since I received this CD about three weeks ago, I have been hooked on listening to it every day. In fact, I even ordered two additional copies to use as birthday gifts. Would love to see Rod Stewart do a songbook devoted especially to one composer such as Cole Porter or maybe Rodgers & Hart. Look forward to hearing more great standards sung by Rod Stewart. "It Had To Be You--The Great American Songbook" is a wonderful addition to my music collection. Thanks, Rod Stewart, for sending it our way.
Free Music Review: PLEASANTLY SURPRISED Hit: 5 Stars
After all the hype, I couldn't wait to get this CD. It arrived this morning, I immediately played it and after listening to the first three tracks remarked to my husband "It's sweet...but he seems a little uncomfortable singing the standards". Guess I didn't give it a chance because after a second listen to the entire CD, I fell in love. I've been playing "Songbook" all day and love it more each time it plays. Rod Stewart's interpretation of these great standards is genuine, soulful Stewart. The orchestration is lush but subtle and Rod is out there, front and center, that oh so familiar rasp performing a genre of music we've never heard from him before, and doing it beautifully. I highly recommend this CD to everyone, not just Stewart fans. You'll be pleasantly surprised. I predict GRAMMY NOMINATION!

Free Music Review: Oooh, Rod! You Sexy Thing! Hit: 5 Stars
Well, it's about time Rod! I don't why you didn't record this type of album sooner! Where you afraid or embarrassed to do it? It sure didn't hurt Sting's career when he crooned some Gershwin and Cole Porter tunes... And you hired the best music producer (living) for the job, Mr. Phil Ramone. My favorites are "These Foolish Things", "I'll Be Seeing You", and "That's All". I have a wide variety of recording artists (some famous and not-yet-famous)who have recorded classics such as these. Artists like Linda Eder, Sting, K.D. Lang, and local West Coast club favorites like Michael Poss, Andrea Marcovicci and Lee Lessack are among my top Traditional Pop/Cabaret singers. Rod Stewart's new CD will definatley be inserted in this collection, too! Good Job, Rod! Great ears for arranging all of them, Phil!
