Free Music Notes for It Had to Be You... The Great American SongbookFree Music Review: Excellent Hit: 5 Stars
Well I can not believe the people who said this was a terrible cd. All I can think is these are people who are not capable of hearing! Thankfully I did not listen to those people. {and the same goes for when "HUMAN" came out! Which is another Excellent CD}As a 37 year old person who did not grow up with these songs being played Over and OVER on the readio.... I can say... I was surprised at how many I knew! I listen to this cd a lot! And from the first day I got it.... I can not believe how calm and unstressed I become while it plays!!! I still can not say I have a favorite cause I LOVE listening to them ALL!!! The older and more mellow Rod gets.... the better.

What better test than for me to take this CD to a Thanksgiving dinner with twelve people ranging in age from 19 to 60. We all enjoyed it, and everyone but two young men, ages 19 and 24, loved hearing Rod Stewart with his smokey, almost raspy voice singing America's favorite--now classic--songs from the mid-20th century. We played it three times, and no one seemed jaded by the repetition--quite a tribute to the singer's appeal and versatility. Two of the Thanksgiving guests suggested that my niece play this wonderful Rod Stewart CD at her wedding next year. My sister-in-law hinted that she'd like to have it for a Christmas present. This CD is a beautiful class act.
Free Music Review: A bridge to the past Hit: 5 Stars
I was as surprised and delighted as anyone to stumble across this album. It never occurred to me that Rod Stewart could sing these songs with such insight and brilliance, but he does and this album is the proof... and then some. Rod Stewart as a familiar voice that I strongly associate with the 1970s and 1980s, provides a perfect bridge to the 1930s. I hear Billy Holiday and Chet Baker's influence in these songs, yet Rod goes beyond mere impersonation and makes these songs his own, he combines their interpretation with his own and creates something new. Well done Rod, I suspect this album will stand as a classic; all accolades it receives are well deserved. *****

Well I can not believe the people who said this was a terrible cd. All I can think is these are people who are not capable of hearing! THANKFULLY I did not listen to those people. As a 37 year old who did not grow up with these songs being played Over and OVER on the radio.... I can say... I was surprised at how many I knew! I listen to this cd a lot! And from the first day I got it.... I can not believe how calm and unstressed I become while it plays!!! I still can not say I have a favorite cause I LOVE listening to them ALL!!! The older and more mellow Rod gets.... the better. Now all I can do is Hope he Does ANOTHER like this and does it soon!
Free Music Review: What a great cd! Hit: 5 Stars
When I purchased this cd, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I wasn't at all disappointed. Rod's voice goes with these classic songs perfectly and the music is extremely soothing and relaxing, while at the same time managing to be both sad and cheery, evoking thoughts of a past era. In the inside of the cd cover, you'll read that Rod has used most of these songs to warm up his voice at concerts for years. He grew up with these songs and has a great love for them, and his passion shows through clearly. While I've always enjoyed Rod Stewart's music, I've never had more respect for his vocal talent than I do now after listing to this cd.
