Free Music Notes for It Had to Be You... The Great American SongbookFree Music Review: This May Be Rod's Best Album To Date Hit: 5 Stars
Rod has really hit his stride with American Songbook. His voice has matured over the years, and so, it seems, have his musical choices. His classic voice, along with the classic songs he chose for this album, bring back memories of listening to Dean Martin when I was a teenager. It truly is, as the album's liner note says, a "losen up that pretty french gown" album; sensuous without being overtly sexual, leaving everything to the imagination. It's too bad more recording artists don't recognize the value of the that. Now, Rod, if you would just recover Dean's Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime, that would be the icing on the cake.
Free Music Review: Great CD!! Hit: 5 Stars
Even though I love Rod Stewart and 'crooner music' from the '30s, '40s and '50s, I was a little skeptical when I bought this CD. I have these same recordings by many different artists, but I was wonderfully surprised to find out that they seem to have been written especially for Rod. What a marvelous job he does on every single selection. And the music - great arrangements, great performances. The first time you hear the CD you won't believe you're listening to Rod Stewart. Other rock musicians from the '60s and '70s - take note. Rod, I love you more than ever. You have really touched a special place in my heart with this CD.
Free Music Review: Rod Has Done It Again.....Soulful, romantic, intimate... Hit: 5 Stars
Grab the wine, your significant other, and go to the most imtimate location you have, turn the lights down low, and listen, feel the music. You won't be disappointed, as this has to be one of the most imtimate/romantic albums I have ever heard.Rod has put his heart and soul into this album and you can hear it. Yes, these are standards sung many years ago by others, but, Rod has taken each track and made it his own. If you are a Rod fan, and refuse to even give this a listen, as I know a few have said, you are missing one of the most soulful albums of Rod's career. Give it a listen, you may be surprised at what you hear.
Free Music Review: It Had To Be You Concert as seen on A & E & CD Hit: 5 Stars
I have read the critical reviews written about Mr. Stewart and find that I am in total disagreement. Quite simply, he does extremely well on each of the songs and excells in many instances. Frank Sinatra is of a different time and had a different voice. He and Harry Connick, who by the way is not Frank Sinatra, both are my heroes. Lastly, Tod Steward comes across strongly. He sends a message for the young of today to start changing the current trends in music. Oldies are of the past, but just listen to the melodies, the words, and you can appreciate using the sounds of today's interpretations. Go for it.
Free Music Review: Warm and Languid Hit: 5 Stars
I think it is a great CD--I have always loved this sort of music and I am glad that Rod Stewart isn't afraid to admit it as well. Long overdue---- And NO I don't think he is anything like Barry Manilow---that would be insulting to Rod Stewart... Rod is so much better..Barry Manilow is so "fabricated" you can definitely hear the world weary, whiskey and smoke tinged vocal cords in Rod-- and with lots of feeling and emotion. Definitely a great CD to listen with someone special or just by yourself with a glass of fine wine or any other libation. I hope Rod does another CD similar to this one again very soon!
