Free Music Review: This is a good cast recording
Hit: 5 Stars

I really enjoy the songs on this cast recording of South Pacific. This is an excellent musical about romance and racial differences. I think Loretta Ables Sayre is so good as Bloody Mary. She shines on tracks like "Happy Talk" and "Bali Ha'i". Kelli O' Hara is equally good in her role as Nellie Forbush. She stands out on the tracks "I'm Going Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair" and "Cockeyed Optimist". Paulo Szot has such a big powerful voice. He sounds so romantic singing the song "Some Enchanted Evening". "There Is Nothing Like A Dame" is a fun song. Matthew Morrison has a beautiful voice. I really like the way he sings "Younger Than Springtime". I hope South Pacific wins all the awards it is nominated for. It is a great show with classic tunes.

Free Music Review: LUSCIOUS!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw South Pacific twice; this was the most luscious musical plus revival I've seen in a long time. I saw it right after it opened at Lincoln Center and people in the audience were crying over it's poignancy and luster. The orchestra was a full 33 musicians, and when the floor above the pit moved back and exposed them for the overture--the audience went wild and went wild at every performance. Such a treat to see a full orchestra--not many shows have this. The music is gorgeous and rich and a great way to remember the genius of Rogers and Hammerstein. Sit back and enjoy great music. Timeless.
The cast was amazing, and if the road show comes to your area--splurge and go see this show!

Free Music Review: Bravo!
Hit: 5 Stars

I approached this revival cast album with trepidation. After a HORRENDOUS "Sound of Music" revival wherein it was DARED to replace the Bennett arrangements; I was afraid they would have done so here. Thankfully, the original arrangements are intact and played with love and gusto (yes the two should always go together). The soloists are A-1 and I must disagree with the critics who have questioned and even slammed the casting of this revival. The album includes everything from the show, played and sung to perfection and well worth Amazon's discounted price. Finally, a revival that does the original justice (I have all the versions from vinyl to CD). I am REALLY enjoying this new version.

Free Music Review: Great souvenir of an unforgettable production.

I thought that I knew this show but I underestimated its impact at the Vivien Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center. There is a real live grand 40+ piece orchestra in the pit that makes the overture take your breadth away and from there it only gets better. The principles are superb and they deserve every award this show has won. Thanks to CD technology, you get a recording of just about all the score with even some incidental and scene change music. I no longer feel like I was cheated to never have heard Mary Martin on stage. Also the production is dedicated to the brave men and women of the South Pacific during WWII. My DA was in Okinawa; so I was very moved!

Free Music Review: South Pacific review
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw this version last night on PBS, Live from Lincoln Center, "South Pacific". I didn't think the orchestra was quite up to par, but the singers sure were. Kelli O'Hara as Nellie Forbush was fabulous, she put her whole heart and soul into her role. Paulo Szot as Emile Debeque was about the best Emile I've ever seen and I've seen all the different versions out there. The whole musical was done quite well even though done on a stage. I'm used to seeing the movie versions, but this one on stage was just great. I can see why each of these singers/actors were chosen to play their parts. They seemed to fit.
