Free Music Notes for Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific (The New Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: Simply the Best!
Hit: 5 Stars

Me and my wife saw one of the last performances at Lincon Center and it is the best play we ever saw. We saw Chorus Line (a few times), West Side Story, Les Mis, Phantom, Cats, etc. but to us this is the best. The next week we bought the CD from the show and found the CD to be as great as the show. I will not high brow this here, I am no singing expert but the CD is great. If you loved the show you will love the CD, you will not be disappointed by the singing. If the play is ever in your area make it your business to see it, if not buy the CD the next best thing to being there!

Free Music Review: Great revival of a great musical
Hit: 5 Stars

South Pacific is widely considered one of the all-time greatest musicals, and yet, somewhat inexplicably, it had never received, until now, the revival it deserved. Add the fact that recording technology has vastly improved since the original cast was recorded in 1949, and this CD is a must-have in any Broadway musical collection, indeed, any music library. This show well deserved it's Tony as Best Musical Revival. I couldn't help but wonder if the show that won Best New Musical, "In the Heights", would, like South Pacific, be re-vivable 60 years after it's original production.

Free Music Review: Almost as good as the live performance
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic production, and the recording really captures a lot of what happens onstage. There is something about a live performance that brings out a little more emotion, though, and I cannot recommend enough that you try to see this show live with Paulo Szot in it before he leaves the cast. When he sang "This Nearly Was Mine" it literally stopped the show and brought everyone to tears. The recorded version is great, but only makes me cry 1/3 of the time. :) The ensemble songs are great fun, especially "Nothin' Like a Dame" and "Bloody Mary."

Free Music Review: Terrific
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a terrific recording of the current (and first) revival of SOUTH PACIFIC from the Lincoln Center Theatre. All of the voices shine in the familiar songs. Purists should rejoice at the clear, correct-to-the-score orchestrations and vocals. The cast is top notch (one might say the best assembled for this production ever). There is a reason this show is getting all of the accolades that it has received -- but it all starts with the musical score. Deserves to be in your musical theatre library.

Free Music Review: South Pacific from biased reviewer
Hit: 5 Stars

An acquaintance of mine (friend of friends)plays Bloody Mary so I am predisposed to like it. But I was not disappointed in any aspect. I loved the original and loved the movie and I love this. I hope I can get to see it in a year or two. Also, the backdrop for the first half of the movie was the view from my condo in Kane`ohe, Hawai`i, for eight years, so when I want to be reminded of South Pacific, I just look at the mural on our wall in Oregon. Good luck Loretta. Keep on belting. Aloha.
