Free Music Notes for No RespectFree Music Review: Rodney Dangerfield:No Respect Hit: 5 Stars
The late great Rodney Dangerfield is one of the greatest comedians of all time if not the greatest and its so sad that he passed a couple years ago we lost a good one. What i love most about him is the way he talks and the way he just insults himself on the way he looks and how stupid he is and how no one respects him. Most of his jokes are one liners, and i like that...i like a joke that gets right to the point, makes room for more laughs on the cd, and thats what you get. You will be laughing all through this so i woulndt recommend listening to this while driving or if you need to go and are no where near a bathroom. He covers a broad range of topics from his wifes terrible cooking (he says meatloaf isnt supposed to glow in the dark) to how his parents treated him etc etc. Another reason i like him is hes from the 80s but he can still make me laugh today as much as the comedians of today. A lot of old comedians just cant do that with me...guess people just had a different sense of humor back then. But Rodney is funny for anyone of any age, though in this particular cd its more for adults only bc he talks about sex alot and from what ive heard b4 he died he was on medical marijuana how funny is that. For kids i would recommend rover dangerfield, loved that movie as a kid lol. If you want a great comedy cd and a cheap price go with this one. Its classic comedy gold. RIP Rodney!
Free Music Review: He was the king of one-liners, and will always be Hit: 5 Stars
In 1980, the two-parter, "No Respect," backed with "Son Of No Respect" was released in LP format, hence it being halved in the CD format.
Rodney Dangerfield threw zingers at us with machine-gun ferocity, and that was the spark of his act; an unrelenting assault on the listener, shot after shot, until you are literally crying with laughter. Sure, there were a few duds in his reportoire, but again, it wasn't always what he said to you, it was how he said it, and the rapidity of it. He would tell of a life which, if it weren't so funny, would be tragic. And true, he did have a tough time early on, failing several times in his chosen profession, quitting show business altogether to become an aluminum siding salesman, only to come back as a major influence on standup comedy.
It's quite obvious he really did have a tough time with people constantly disrespecting him, at least during his formative years, and doubtless some of the more credible things he told of, must've happened, in one form or another. But over time, surely he was very well-respected.
Comedy records usually don't age well, but this one has, quite well at that. Most of us have heard many of these jokes, many times over the years, but here is where they originated.
Again, Rodney was the master of one-liners. EXTREMELY funny man.
Free Music Review: The very best RD you'll find on cd or dvd; classic delivery of hilarious material. Hit: 5 Stars
Hadn't heard this in years; it's even better than I remembered. Rodney never lets up, rattling off the great bits one after the other. The master self-deprecator in action! I laughed out loud at least sixty times in forty minutes. No one today except Chris Rock gets me that often. The jokes are just plain funny, no matter how goofy and cheesy they get. And man could he own the room.
RD was at home in his own club here and it shows. His timing is flawless. This is a master class in how to work a crowd. I've done some stand-up and it ain't easy to keep a crowd howling for one minute, let alone forty. There's no one working now who can touch Rodney for all around laughs per minute. All that time in the Catskills and decades in shady little clubs paid off: this set is pure comedy gold. Delivery, material, timing, attitude: all dead-on.
If you dig this, definitely check out Rodney's excellent auotbiography, a very underrated and very funny book. Btw, this cd has more good bits than most of the other RD collections put together, and is ten times the value of the No Respect 3-dvd set, which blows compared to this. He's uncensored and real here, and that's the only way to hear Mr. D.
Rodney Dangerfield: they only made one.
And he must have created a billion laughs, at least.
Not a bad legacy.
Free Music Review: ...His "2nd" best LP... Hit: 5 Stars
The LP/CD No Respect is the one for which we'll all remember Rodney, a comedy legend. It's a must-buy for all Rodney fans. But...for an even FUNNIER Rodney recording, try and check out Rappin' Rodney (1983) on rare, hard-to-find LPs, audio tapes or eight-track tapes. I don't know why it was never released on CD, but on that one, his rapid-fire delivery and one-liners top even No Respect. I always wondered if maybe Rodney was a little embarrassed by the rap song "Rappin' Rodney" that he sung on that album -- which to some could sound a little out of date these days -- and maybe that was why he never pushed for it to be released on CD, but that was just a guess on my part. Who knows what the real reason is/was. But aside from the song, which I happen to think is funny too, the jokes on Rappin' Rodney will have you absolutely ROLLING in the aisles, if you can get your hands on it anywhere. The jokes on both No Respect and Rappin' Rodney are classic Rodney Dangerfield at his best, so definitely purchase No Respect if you're any type of Rodney fan. If you've ever seen him on The Tonight Show, then you might've even heard him telling some of the same jokes heard on both recordings. Rodney was awesome at what he did...like I said...a comedy legend.
Free Music Review: Masterful--Funny, Creative, and in Control Hit: 5 Stars
I'd heard a variety of Rodney Dangerfield one-liners in my time, but always wondered, is it possible that an entire album of one-liners could be that funny? Absolutely! Dangerfield is an example of a comic whose delivery and persona perfectly match his subject matter. The lines come out of him non-stop, each one relying on his sad-sack persona for the extra bit of pathetic humor.
What's most impressive about Rodney Dangerfield--and I'd say the same of Jackie Mason when I saw him in concert--is the absolute mastery and control that he has over his material and the audience. There are several instances of heckling during his set and he quiets them down with a quick retort and doesn't so much as skip a beat. At the end of the album he answers some questions from audience members and shows a flair for both improvisational humor and the ability to tie audience comments back to his own material. I'm stunned that I got this CD for about $7. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better comedy value anywhere. (Just for your calibration purposes, my favorite comedians are "early" George Carlin, Robin Williams, Mitch Hedberg, Woody Allen, Steve Martin, Bill Cosby and the Sklar Brothers.)
