Free Music Review: A Lackluster Live Release
Hit: 2 Stars

Perhaps realizing he hadn't released an album in eight years--and that his old associates Pink Floyd hadn't toured recently (no more royalties for those inflatable pigs at Floyd concerts)--Roger Waters packaged "In the Flesh," an uninspired double disc live set. This performance comes off much better visually (therefore the DVD), than it does musically; spare for few examples, the renditions of the numbers here don't sound too different than their studio versions, making the musical performance very lackluster. However, fans of Floyd will be pleased to know that Waters has included material from "Animals" and "The Final Cut," due to the fact that the band has never released any live recordings of songs from either album. The bassist's solo efforts are represented as well, therefore revealing yet again Waters' predictable preaching about war, Maggie Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and other people who have never done anything to Roger Waters, that was so evident on his last studio album, "Amused To Death." And of course, the "toss in a new track to boost sales" strategy is in play; 'Each Small Candle' is a worthy song, keeping "In the Flesh" out of one-star lows. Finally, it's worth noting that Waters' liner notes for the album show his end of the childishness in the Floyd versus Waters feud, as he immaturely refers to them only as "another band."

Free Music Review: Waters is Alive and Well!
Hit: 4 Stars

I'll start by saying I've never been a big fan of 'live' recordings. The sound quality is often inferior and the crowd noise is distracting. Not so with "In the Flesh". The crowd noise is mostly only heard between songs and never distracts the performance. The sound quality is better than many studio recordings. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because of missing material from Radio K.A.O.S., one of Waters' finest efforts. These performances are arranged just differently enough to add a different approach to listening, but retains much of the integrity of the original recordings. Some fine old favorites from the "Floyd" days as well as some stellar work from Water's solo career. I was skeptical about getting this 2 CD set, but now I'll never part with it.

Free Music Review: This is a great concert

I play this in the office frequently. Other folks who like Pink Floyd occasinally wander in and are mesmerized by the sound. It is different, it is live, and it covers almost all the songs that are my all-time favorites.

Free Music Review: Do drink the WATERS
Hit: 5 Stars

Well I went to the show, actually the first show on this tour (Tampa)but am sooo glad I purchased the DVD. It is amazing to see the visuals and the band touring with Roger Waters is unbeleivable in not only recreating the Floyd sound but I enjoyed the solo material probably more then the albums. The sound in surround 5.1 dolby digital is one of the best you'll ever hear . To say I love it is a understatement, it's a must purchase for even the occasional fan!! WOW

Free Music Review: Have not heard it ever
Hit: 5 Stars

But please I beg of you to not listen to the previous reviewer from Ontario, Canada. CDs admittedly do sound pretty bad when they're not remastered, but DVDs are not better than them by any means. DVDs may have cool packaging and may be nice to look at from time to time, but truthfully I'd much rather have all CDs be in newer remastered formats than in bland-sounding DVD formats. For one thing DVDs cannot be listened to on walks whereas CDs can in discmans. And also not many people would want to have to be forced to constantly sit there and stare at a screen just to listen to music. You can't be standing up cooking or cleaning, or even lying down with your eyes closed on the couch or your bed while watching a DVD. DVDs are for watching and not really listening. Who in their right mind would even want to watch a concert on TV, when they can listen to it instead? Music should be listened to and not watched most of the time. I say to heck with DVDs and instead begin transferring all old CDs to newer, clearer-sounding remastered CDs, and make all future releases automatically be digitally remastered for superior sound. CDs are just superior to DVDs in just about every way, and I just wish people could see that instead of jumping on the bandwagon and praising DVDs like they do. You all are sheep who follow the crowd and cannot think for yourselves, because if you did you would definitely see that DVDs are not that great at all.
