Free Music Review: No, there is no hope for this mess
Hit: 1 Stars

This material is trite, pretentious, undrammatic and generally without any redeeming quality whatsoever. Not only is this not an opera, it isn't even a musical. What it sounds like is third-rate movie music. There used to be an audience for "middle brow" product like this, andf perhaps this drivel will find one--but seriously, folks, how Terfel, Groves et al can have stooped to lend their names to such completely useless elevator music is simply amazing. Complete dreck.

Free Music Review: Ca Ira - Breaking Down The Wall
Hit: 5 Stars

Ca Ira, Opera or Musical Theater? Or both? For me, it is both. Ca Ira is Roger Water's first, and hopefully not last, full length classical work. There were shades of his classical talent on The Trial from The Wall, and I have always said that that could have been musical theater.

Simply put, Ca Ira is excellent. It is rich, powerful, clever and quite moving in parts. The performances of the singers are world class, and the production is at a standard we have come to expect from Roger.

I must, however, warn those who love Pink Floyd and Roger Waters music that this is NOT the same. It is a serious classical work, and only occasionally do Roger's past musical styles become recognizable.

Ca Ira, Opera or Musical Theater? It really does not matter. Just enjoy it for what it is. A contemporary masterpiece!

Free Music Review: Hope at Last!

I was lucky enough to grow up in a house where I was exposed not only to rock music and folk music, but to classical as well, my father being a classical pianist. When I heard about Ca Ira I was curious, so I took a chance on it, and was thrilled. Much modern classical music leaves me cold, but this opera is very moving, exciting, beautifully composed, brilliantly arranged and executed. What more could one ask for? Given Elisabeth Vincentelli's so-called review, she obviously has her head stuck somewhere where the sun doesn't shine! This IS an opera indeed, lady! Could she possibly have a bone to pick? Hmm. It's exceedingly amusing that she mentioned Lloyd Webber, since my twenty-year-old daughter pointed out to me that Lloyd Webber lifted music from Pink Floyd. Treat yourself to Ca Ira. Listen to it several times and you decide. The cynics be damned. This is a fabulous album!

Free Music Review: Magnificent
Hit: 5 Stars

Frankly, I ordered this CD with a rather odd feeling. Could a rock 'm roll star actually make the quantum leap from rock music to classical opera? For most of my life, I have been listening to opera - my mother is a great opera fan - and therefore I knew rather well that this was a particular serious, almost academic, genre of music. This is not about generating repetitive sounds as in so-called house music. IThis is opera with its rather elaborate and complex orchestral arrangements.

So I am really astounded by the sheer quality of CA IRA. While melody is spared on just some of the pieces, it gets hugely uplifting, fantastically pleasing on others. As with all grand works of art, it needs time to digest. Give it a second or third run and I'll promise you, you'll love it.

This has to be one of the best contemporary opera's I have hear in a long time. Though I am a stark Roger Waters fan, I am also a fan of the classic operas, and the contemporary lot. But this has to be something special. Alot of people may look at this and say hmmmm....Les Miserable...but that was a musical...set for broadway. This is a classical Opera...like anything that Mozart would have done. And the structure is extremely ingenious. Its set as a Circus, using circus performers to mimic the actions of the revoluntion intertwined with the actual events! It grand, broad, and has so much depth that its all you could hope to expect from someone like Roger Waters...it even has his signature use of sound sampling. Its so complete and fullfilling that I'm not sure why you wouldn't want this in your collection!

"Ca Ira envokes the passion, faith, and madness of a time that forever changed the nature of the world."

Hats off to Mr.Roger Waters, and the cast and singers taht made this all possible. Bloody Amazing!
