Free Music Notes for Beggars BanquetFree Music Review: This is an SACD!!!!!!!!!! Hit: 4 StarsJames - are you sure you didn't get the OTHER CD issue of Beggar's Banquet?
This is an SACD AND a CD - it has both layers.
If you don't have an SACD player then you can't access the higher resolution, if you do have an SACD player and it's not reading that you've inserted an SACD disc then there is a flaw with your disc. Take it, along with the receipt, back to the store you bought it at and you'll get a replacement.
Free Music Review: Remaster Worth It Hit: 5 StarsAnother reviewer, "exileonmainst" has questioned the value in the remastering on the Stones' ABKCO releases. Take it from me. I replaced my old cds with the new remasters, and I can assure you that the remastered versions are FAR SUPERIOR to the old releases, and I do not own an SACD compatable cd player. ABKCO's previous releases have been remixed, making the track less muddy sounding at high volume. The level of clarity is amazing, and the mixes have been opened up to allow for a fuller sound. Definately worth the price of the new CD.
Free Music Review: This is not an SACD Hit: 1 StarsThis album is excellent and worth 5 stars. This is a review of the format. The title claims that this is a HYBRID SACD. It is NOT! It was encoded using DSD which is the same process used to make an SACD but there is no high resolution SACD layer. It is well mastered and sounds excellent but it is not an SACD. Do not buy this thinking it is an SACD. If you just want a good recording then you will be happy.
EDIT (April 2006)
Steven, if there is an SACD version of this I'd love to find it. I ordered mine from Amazon and it was NOT an SACD (I am referring to the abkco version). I DO have an SACD player and not only was my copy single layer it didn't even say it was an SACD on the case or have the logo. I also note that Amazon no longer lists this as a hybrid SACD. When I purchased my copy around Dec 2005 it said SACD in big title type - not any more.
As I said before, GREAT album and GREAT sound but not SACD. I also give it 5 stars now as it no longer claims to be what it is not (don't seem to be able to change that though). It is a 5 star CD and I highly recommend it.
EDIT (May 2006)
Okay, a bit more info. I have now learned that the original release of most if not all of the stones on ABKCO back in 2002 were in fact hybrid SACD. However, most, if not all, are now out of print. Instead, they have released NON-SACD remastered versions which do sound good. You can apparently tell the difference from the packaging. If it's a digi-pack then it is (most likely) the now out of print SACD version (some may still be in print - I don't have details on all of them). If you buy this now you will probably not get the SACD version - although some may still be in the amazon warehouse and it could be hit or miss (I missed on this one). You might also be able to find them in some stores as many people pass up the digi-packs and there are still some around (I bought Satanic Majesties Request just today in a digi-pack and it is a hybrid SACD). None of the digi-packs say anything about being an SACD on the outside but there is a little note on the disc itself. Unfortunately you will have to open it to verify.
Hopefully this helps clear things up.
Free Music Review: Another Stones classic and a MUST OWN for any self-respecting music lover! Hit: 5 StarsLike basically every other early Stones album, "Beggar's Banquet" is another classic that you definitely need in your collection. Every track on here is great, and it also contains some pretty well-known Stones classics ("Sympathy For The Devil" and "Street Fighting Man", for example). Everything is wonderful here, from the lyrics to the instrumentation. The musicianship is excellent (more great Rock & Roll), and the lyrics are very much worth your time to listen to (they're incredibly interesting AND catchy!). Mick Jagger delivers more memorable vocals here on "Beggar's Banquet". This arguably may not be their "best" album, but really, there's no use bickering over such little things as they're all great and classics in their own way. All things aside, most people will love this album along with practically every other Stones CD! Absolutely recommended!
Highlights include:
the entire album!
Free Music Review: The Best Hit: 5 Stars This is the Stone's single 5 star album. Not one bad song. When this came out around the time of the "White Album",I was amazed that for once,The Stones had won the healthy competition they'd had with the Beatles.
