Free Music Notes for Between the ButtonsFree Music Review: Doesn't get any better than this! Hit: 5 StarsI don't care what anyone thinks, this is my all time favorite Rolling Stones. Everything about it is truly amazing. The songs are so diverse; they range from simple rockers like "Connection" and "My Obsession" to divine classics like "Let's Spend The Night Together" and "Ruby Tuesday". "Let's Spend The Night Together" is the best Stones song ever recorded. I love everything about it; from the drumming to the backing vocals. "Ruby Tuesday" also stands out as very heartfelt, especially with Brian Jones playing the recorder. "Yesterday's Papers" is another good one that really has that sixties sound to it. I especially like the guitar solo in it. "She Smiled Sweetly" is a lovely ballad and songs like these are very rare in the Stones catalog. I love "My Obsession" also; it's very simple as is "Connection", where Keith delivers some of his best back-up vocals. "Something Happened To Me Yesterday" ends the album sweetly; the song is light hearted and fun. I enjoy listening to it.
Free Music Review: The Stones Go a Little Psychedelic Hit: 5 StarsYou can tell right away by looking at photographer Gered Mankowitz's kind of blurry psychedelic photograph that this isn't going to be your ordinary Rolling Stones record. Well, I suppose there are no ordinary Stones' records, but this one is a bit different. The Beatles were doing "Revolver" around this time. Bob Dylan was doing "Blonde on Blonde," Donovan was going all Flower Power. Some of that stuff was rubbing off on Mick and the boys and it wasn't all bad, no sir, because "Between the Buttons" is sort of the result. This is just a bang up fun record to listen to "Ruby Tuesday," was a huge hit and is a wowza of a song. "Yesterday's Papers" is sort of a kiss off song, you know, a guy telling a girl she's yesterday's news. I remember reading somewhere that Mick was sort of telling a girl he was through with her by doing this song. I like every song on this record, both the US and the UK versions. The Stones really pour their heart out here. "Between the Buttons" is a must own record for any Stones fan, for any Rock and Roll aficionado as well.
Free Music Review: Stop! You Want the UK Release, Not this US Release! Hit: 4 StarsDon't let my stars mislead you... The "real" Between the Buttons is a five star release, but this isn't the "real thing" If you want to hear "Between the Buttons" the way it was meant to be heard you want to purchase the UK release, also available here at Amazon.com. The American release was butchered by greedy American record executives. One of the really nice highlights of the UK release was ommitted from the US Release (Backstreet Girl) If you MUST have Ruby Tuesday and Let's Spend the Night Together you should purchase the UK release of "Between the Buttons" and then the SACD Hybrid "Through The Past Darkly" which is loaded with the Stones hits from 66 - 69.
Free Music Review: Rolling Stones - 'Between The Buttons' (Abkco) Hit: 4 StarsOriginally released in 1967,as I assume this is a lesser known Stones lp reissue because I simply don't remember the album.I do,however vaguely remember some of the cuts here(always wondered where these tunes came from),like "All Sold Out","Backstreet Girl",the witty "Cool,Calm&Collected" and "Miss Amanda Jones".At the time 'Between...' came out, needless to say,it apparently had caused some controvery.Times have changed, haven't they? But,good rock&roll hasn't.Check this one out.You won't regret it.
Free Music Review: the Ed Sullivan Show album Hit: 4 StarsIn 1966 Theeee Rolling Stones appeared on Ed Sullivan to play their current top 40 hits, "Ruby Tuesday" ( no connection to the restaurant ) and the controversial
( at the time ) "Let's Spend the Night Together". If you listen to their early works ( all previous efforts ) about 60% of this has quite a bit of humorous connotation in it. "All Sold Out",
"My Obsession", "Who's Been Sleeping Here?","Complicated", "Miss
Amanda Jones" ( Brian Jones' sister? ),are all good rockers with humor interjected. About 80% is good rock 'n'roll music with humor from the day ( 1966 )Enjoy!!!
