Free Music Notes for England's Newest HitmakersFree Music Review: Never Fade Away Hit: 5 StarsI've heard that back in the early Sixties the Rolling Stones were the bad boys of the English music scene while the Beatles were the good guys. Well, give me the bad boys any day of the week, month or year. This is the Stones debut album and you can tell from the very first chord, from the second Mick Jaggar opens his mouth that this is a band to be reckoned with. Nobody did it like the Stones back then and nobody does it like the Stones today. They've been around my whole life. I grew up with them and God willing, I'll grow old with them. I've seen them live more times than I can count, loved every second of every show. Let's all hope that the Rolling Stones Never Fade Away.
Free Music Review: Yeah! Hit: 4 StarsThis is one helluva debut! It is catchy, fresh, imaginative, and indicative of their myriad influences.
Keith gives us plenty of two-string riffs, Mick shows his range, Brian shows his versatility, and the rhythm section sounds tight. Some of the stuff is a bit of a stretch ("Can I Get A Witness"), but let's face it - we could say that about every recording this band has ever released, right?
The stand-outs are pure joy; "I'm A King Bee," "Carol," "Not Fade Away," "Route 66," "Tell Me," "Little by Little," and the blues instrumental "Now I've Got A Witness," the latter two showcasing Keith's nascent interpretations of the work of his blues/rock guitar influences.
This is a fantastic album that serves as a splendid launching point for this remarkable band and a wonderful introduction for anyone interested in exploring their deep, solid roots.
Free Music Review: The Beginning Hit: 4 StarsThe first US stones release blew me away. I was still getting into the Beatles when along came the Stones and turned my world upside down and started me on my appreciation of blues music.
This first album was the first step. It was great then and it is still great now!
Free Music Review: ' THEN' Englands strongest hitmakers Hit: 5 StarsLet me start this pragmatic way. Back in the British Invasion ( musically ) this was the first album by the Rolling Stones released in the U.S. At the time of release their top 40 songs
were " Not Fade Away " & " Tell Me ". The other 10 were various reneditions made famous by other R & B artists. The unique talent of the Stones during this period was that they could take someone elses song and make it sound better ( A talent Van Halen had in the Diamond Dave era ). Everything from Rte#66 to Walkin' the Dog had the distinct touch only the "Brian" era Stones could give to an R & B piece. I recommend this as a BUY.
Free Music Review: RE: SACD Ripoff Hit: 5 StarsAnother response to the reviewer bashing the SACD Hybrid releases. First, no one is making you buy an SACD player. Relax. Second, considering it IS an SACD, the price is actually a bargain. So, again, relax. Third, yes, the sound quality of SACDs IS that much better. Refrain from making judgment on something until you have experienced it. And fourth, as the other commentator diligently noted, these are HYBRID CDs. They will play on your Hello Kitty CD player and sound oh so sweet. Please, pull the cotton out of your ears and your thumb from your nose.
And by the way, the music rocks.
