Free Music Notes for Hot Rocks 1964-1971Free Music Review: the musics good the price is bad Hit: 5 Stars
let me be clear all this music is first rate. however the price of 35$ even for a double disc is extreme especially when its in its original format meaning that when this was released in 1971 it was released on two lp because they could only hold 50 min of music and each lp had about 45 min on their. cd's can hold 80 mon of music meaning that all they had to do was cut the 10 min version of midnight rambler and maybe one more track and they could fit this one disc and cut the price in half. or if they were going to keep it in 2 disc fromat they could have updated it with bonus tracks from more hot rocks adding songs im free , not fade away, little red rooster and filled out the two disc or made it into a three disc. but no they just try to screw you. but all that aside the music is great and if price doesn't bother pick it up. if it does check out 40 licks compilation
Free Music Review: Ladies and gentlemen, the Rolling Stones... Hit: 5 Stars
...at last properly remastered. Of the SACD remixes, this is the only one I have so far, but I was most heartened to see that the reissue series was comprehensive. I don't think the UK versions of such albums as Aftermath and Between the Buttons were released in America on CD when ABKCO did the first round of CD remasters in 1986.No matter--they're all here now. Even better news is that these are hybrid SACDs, so they can be listened to on regular CD players (good news for such as me, as I don't have a SACD player yet), and as such, they still sound pretty damn good. And now that the Stones' back catalogue has been remastered in this format, how about the Beatles (what say, Capitol/EMI?) next? And perhaps putting the first six albums into twofer formats, so that the CDs will truly be worth the price we must pay for them?
Free Music Review: I get off on lollipops Hit: 5 Stars
One of the most addictive qualities to a new romance is the opportunity to reinvent yourself. New couples exchanges personal histories when acquainting themselves with one another and, of course, histories get reinterpreted and subsequently recast. Once a couple completes the process of individual explication, then, alas, reality, the new narrative, proceeds, fixing itself in quotidian praxis. Boo hoo. It's so hard to change identities when the significant other knows so much. Consider happily ever after. If happiness is so desirable, then why does it END the story? These are some of the themes contained within Hot Rocks. If we ever wondered what might have become of Byron, had he lived, look no further than Mick. Now, if you'll excuse me, the wife is screaming something from the other room.
Free Music Review: The greatest album ever released? Hit: 5 Stars
It is now 15 years since i got this album for christmas. Since then i have heard all sorts of great music. But Hot Rocks is still my favourite. It does not sound like a collection of singles, the songs match each other very well. The songs grow both in length and complexity throughout the album. The songs are all good examples of the Stones' qualites: freshnes, energy, catchy melodies, provocative and funny lyrics. But it took me quite some time to fully see the qualities of Hot Rocks, all the songs do not sound spectacular at once. But it gets better and better the more you listen to it. The only snag is that the sound quality isn't always great. We don't usually consider "greatest hits"-albums among the candidates for "the best album ever". If they were candidates, this would be my pick.
Free Music Review: Stonesmania- The Definitive A-List Selections Hit: 5 Stars
Hey, in 2009 no one, including this reviewer, NEEDS to comment on the fact that The Rolling Stones, pound for pound, have over forty plus years earned their place as the number one band in the rock `n' roll pantheon. Still, it is interesting to listen once again to the guys when they were at the height of their musical powers (and as high, most of the time, as Georgia pines). This period from 1964 to 1971, moreover, unlike let us say Bob Dylan who has produced more creative work for longer, is the `golden era" of the Stone Age. While this CD has the rather definitive selection of "greatest hits' from this period so there are no bad tracks here the stick outs are "Gimme Shelter"( as always), "Street Fighting Man", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Under My Thumb" and "Ruby Tuesday"
