Free Music Review: DEFINITELY AN OUTSTANDING ALBUM BY THE ROLLING STONES
Hit: 5 Stars
This so far is my favorite ROLLING STONES album. Unfortunately, it is also the last album with lead and slide guitarist MICK TAYLOR whose rhythm and blues style kept THE STONES rollin' after the 1969 departure and death of guitarist BRIAN JONES. IF YOU CAN'T ROCK ME is an outstanding beginner for this album. The intro of the drums by CHARLIE WATTS, rhythm guitar riffs by KEITH RICHARDS, the bluesy lead guitar solo by MICK (also throughout the song), and the bass guitar riffs by BILL WYMAN starts the album off with a outstanding kick and then kicks into overdrive with MICK JAGGER'S lead vocal, KEITH'S harmony vocal, and clavinet by solo artist BILLY PRESTON. The remake of the MOTOWN hit AIN'T TOO PROUD TO BEG is an excellent rockin' song with the drums, bass guitar riffs, guitar riffs (including solos by MICK TAYLOR), vocals by MICK JAGGER and KEITH, and keyboards by BILLY. The title track is excellent with MICK TAYLOR'S overdriven guitar riffs, the acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar riffs by KEITH, bass guitar riffs, drums, vocals, and piano by IAN STEWARD. TILL THE NEXT GOODBYE is an excellent acoustic ballad with the acoustic guitar, MICK TAYLOR'S bluesy slide guitar, vocals, and piano by NICKY HOPKINS. Now comes the highlight of the album called TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE that has a oustanding introduction. This is also my most favorite ROLLING STONE song ever, but then there is also their similar sounding 1981 hit WAITING ON A FRIEND from TATTOO YOU. Anyway, TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE features excellent piano riffs by NICKY, the synthesizer by either BIIL or MICK TAYLOR, bass guitar riffs, the acoustic and rhythm guitar, drums, lead vocal by MICK JAGGER, and harmony vocal by KEITH. More importantly, the highlight of this song is the signature bluesy guitar solo played by MICK TAYLOR, which happens to be his best yet. LUXURY is an excellent song that features excellent guitar riffs by KEITH and MICK TAYLOR, vocal, drumsand piano by IAN. I just do not understand why there is no bass guitar. DANCE LITTLE SISTER is an outstanding past paced rocker that kicks the album into overdrive. It features excellent rhythm guitar riffs by KEITH, electrifying lead guitar by MICK, bass guitar riffs, piano by IAN, drums, and vocals. Plus, it sounds similar to RESPECTABLE from the 1978 album SOME GIRLS that also features SHATTERED (the funniest song I thought they ever recorded). IF YOU REALLY WANT TO BE MY FRIEND is another excellent ballad with the acoustic and leslie guitar riffs, piano by NICKY and lead vocal by MICK JAGGER. Plus, MICK TAYLOR delivers an excellent lead guitar solo that enlightens this song, but I think they could have harmony vocals by the band instead of the gospel BLUE MAGIC. SHORT AND CURLIES has an excellent piano intro by IAN, vocals, drums, guitar and bass guitar riffs, drums; however, beware of a possible offensive phrase at the beginning of this song and throughout. FINGERPRINT is an excellent closer for the album. It features excellent guitar riffs that sounds like they were played on a FENDER STRATOCASTER, vocals, drums, bass guitar riffs, keyboards by BILLY, and lead guitar by MICK TAYLOR. However, KEITH not singing lead vocal on this album is unfortunate and I do not like the sound of BILL'S bass guitar, despite his excellent style. After this album and the departure of MICK TAYLOR who should have had songwriting credits, as BILL and CHARLIE, and the arrival of THE FACES' RON WOOD, the band's style of music began to change, especially with dicso around the corner in 1976. Meanwhile, the replica of the album covers and liner notes match the original artwork of the album and this 1974 alubm is definitely a must have for all ROLLING STONE fans.
