Free Music Notes for BBC SessionsFree Music Review: Thanks BBC! Rory was the best kept blues secret in Europe Hit: 5 Stars
Rory was the Real Deal. Not much credit as a blues guitar player being a "white guy from Belfast" in the late 60's. For years his stuff was next to impossible to find in the US, but there is a bounty of reissues out now. This BBC 2x CD is really nice. The sets are all electric so Rory's "unplugged" blues efforts are not presented- I hope the BBC has some stored away for us! I saw him with Taste in 1969 in Detroit at Cobo Hall. Taste was a warmup for Clapton's Blind Faith. Rory ruled the night. I still remember being stunned by his powerful energy, honest emotion and scorching guitar work! Oh yeah, he had the flannel shirt then too. Got the Blues? Then get this set. Look for "Taste" CD's also.
Free Music Review: Excellent Hit: 5 Stars
Rory Gallagher excelled on every level, as guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, and this set reaffirms that fact. This 2-disc set features a both live and studio performances, with an interesting mix of both originals and classic covers of blues classics, and Rory's genius manifests itself throughout. In particular, the live performances show why Rory was one of the most dynamic, talented, and vastly underrated artists of all time. Special thanks are due to Rory's brother Donal, who has done a superb job in making Rory's music available, and keeping the legend alive. This set is a treat for any blues/rock fan seeking some of the best music ever made.
Free Music Review: Two Smokin' Discs For The Price Of One Hit: 5 Stars
Rory Gallagher was one of the greatest blues/rock guitar players of all time and these discs really shine as one of his best releases. Like Johnny Winter, Rory is unique because he was one heck of a slide AND flat pick player. Most players are proficient in one or the other. Disc one is all live from different dates and venues, disc two is all great studio stuff from the early seventies, except the last track which is another live cut. You searched for Rory on Amazon because you are either familier with or heard of the legend. Modern blues/rockers can take many lessons from this material. Buy this set. You will thoroughly enjoy it.
Free Music Review: Oh... so GOOD!! Hit: 5 Stars
God...this cat could play!! I was lucky enough to see him live in a small town in Germany 1975..small University Gym..snow storm raging outside. He didn't canx the show--and EVERYONE showed up for a night of Blues Rock I know no one there has forgotten. Hearing these BBC disks brings it all back home. Rory always gave you his all..and he was all about the love of music and guitar in particular. That's something lacking today..artists like Rory--he never got rich or as famous as his talent should have made him--but he worked his ass off and poured his soul into every show and song he did. You just can't go wrong with this one!! Play on RORY!!
Free Music Review: The Best BBC set? Hit: 5 Stars
Let me be the 25th person to tell the world this is a GREAT collection of music(25 is my favorite number). I've been a big fan of Rory since back when I bought the 1st Taste record. I was just the tiniest bit unsure about this since some of the BBC sets sound a little stiff to me. I shouldn't have worried; to me this is the best BBC release ever, and I've heard a lot of them(Cream, Kinks, Yardbirds, Who and more). Rory is on fire from start to finish. If I had to choose I guess the live disc is my favorite with "Got My Mojo Working" and Garbage Man" on it.
And all this music is yours for $7.98(or less)!
