Free Music Notes for High Lonesome Sound

Free Music Review: A must buy for fans of good music
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not gonna get up on my high horse like some people do on these Amazon reviews, but I will say this: The High Lonesome Sound is a CD I have never gotten sick of. It is probably the best bluegrass/old timey album I've ever bought.
Holcomb's vocals, particularily on the first track, give me goose bumps every time I hear it. His harmonica playing and banjo picking is distinctive and first rate. If you are a fan of older music, bluegrass, blues or country... BUY THIS CD!

Hit: 5 Stars

The weird modal and atonal singing found on this cd will just absolutely chill your blood. "Otherworldy" is an overused adjective--- but, it's not only acurate but an understatement in the case of this disc. Roscoe imbues these ancient tunes with a hard-won honesty. These are absolutely magical. There is no one who sings this way. They will haunt you forverer. Makes the Palace Bros. sound like the Backstreet Boys.

Free Music Review: A much needed reissue
Hit: 5 Stars

I can imagine Roscoe Holcomb simply sitting on his porch with a banjo or guitar making music to give his harsh life some sense and permanence. A couple of listens to this disc and you realize he succeeded. There are cuts here like "Village Chuchyard" that you simply can't shake off. Take a chance, buy it and listen to a master.

Free Music Review: Chilling
Hit: 5 Stars

I can't remember the last time a recording turned my entire arm to gooseflesh- Roscoe Holcomb does it on near every song. Listen to him hit some crazy note on "In the Pines" and it's scarier than Kurt Cobain could ever dream of. Similar to Dock Boggs but with a loneliness that's completely his own. Absolutely essential.
