Free Music Notes for Black & White NightFree Music Review: A Rare Treat - The Stars Aligned For A Legend Hit: 5 Stars
Seven superstars paying tribute to a legend - usually these affairs are more reminiscent of a punch-drunk heavyweight rope-a-doping for one last payday as he gamely sings into a dead microphone while his more famous mates gently prop up their mentor. Well, on Black and White Night Roy Orbison had a different idea - taking everyone to school and making it our privilege to sit in on the lesson.
With his multiple octave range on full display and his all-star band in support-mode only, Orbison tore and growled though his complete canon with a force and passion that was as unexpected as it was transformative and essential. Orbison is one cool cat and the only human being that should ever be allowed to wear sunglasses at night. Breathtaking.

This is all you need to have of Roy Orbison, a fantastic televised concert that featured Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, among many others. It is very nice to see the CD and DVD released once again. Orbison's voice carried the evening on such immortal songs as Dream Baby, Ooby Dooby and Pretty Woman. At the same time he was doing fantastic work with The Traveling Wilburies. It was a veritable Roy Orbison revival in the late 80's. Unfortunately, he passed away all too quickly and didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of his labor. His voice is one of the quentessential voices of rock and roll, and this is a stunning tribute to the man behind the dark sunglasses.
Free Music Review: Qunitessential Roy Hit: 5 Stars
Whether you had 'Live in Austin' or not, you'd sense the aura that accompanied the stellar cast that thronged in awe around the Big O for this recording of the Coconut Grove Sessions. No song is less than compelling. None of the cast are out to upstage the master. It's first rate homage all the way, superbly produced by T Bone Burnett (who must wish, like so many, to have been blessed by vocal chords like Roy's to adorn his own lyrics). All of Orbison's songs have a powerful sense of being dreams, or to have been a way of escaping the dilemna of dreams, and for this reason I have always resonated to the terrible beauty of,'Leah'performed with all its operatic majesty on this night of nights.

I bought this CD for a friend of mine who happens to be blind. I did so after seeing the stage set of Black and White Night on PBS and telling Mike about the great show. He wished he had been able to have caught it as he too is a musician and quite the vocalist in his own right. Orbison is one of his favorites. I figured the CD would be as valuable to him as the DVD, and less expensive for myself, he has thanked me many times for the gift.
If you love Roy, seeing all his friends willing to play "second fiddle" to him and work back-up is amazing. Well worth the money.

Free Music Review: THIS IS MY FAVORITE CD!! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD after seeing the live show on the TV on the PBS channel..I had never known much about Roy but this tape was so great because it has so many guest artists playing on it..I used Amazon because they have the best prices and I have never been disappointed with any of their CD's or the service they give..This CD is great, but if you're searching for it under the title looking for his guest performers CD beware....Someone else was selling it for nearly $60 and I got this from Amazon for only $6...If you like Roy Orbison, this is a great one to get..
