I hate it when raving fanatics give every record in the universe. It runs all over me. So because of my snooty but informed opinions, I will endeavor to tell it like it is. Now then: As an avid dancer, a jazz musician, and leader of my very own 8-piece Atlanta area swing band, I have heard it ALL, but I still come back to Royal Crown Revue for all my neo-swing needs. Yes, I think the original stuff is the best (Benny Goodman will swing you into a hole in the ground), but RCR has really got something. Their horns are tight as anything, and I love that their guitar player comps like a piano player -- as he should. Plus that, these guys can write a SONG. A real song that evokes emotions -- not just the cheap jump-blues crap that is eating up the airwaves. "The Contender" (track one) actually paints a picture of an embittered boxer on his last leg. I love it. And there's no hint of "I's a'gonna jump wit mah baby all de night long" or anything like it in the entire track. I really like this band, and I really like this album!
