I just saw Ruben Gonzales and Ibrahim Ferrer in concert a few weeks ago and the live performance put me in awe of these talented musicians. The rhythms and melodies that Ruben strings together are heavenly - his technical mastery of the piano is unbelievable. I believe that this disc is much better than the Buena Vista Social Club disc with greater creativity and spark.Free Music Review: Groovin' On Ruben!

I recently went to a screening of an upcoming major film to find that the movie's musical soundtrack was handled by the legendary and great Danny Elfman. What did Elfman choose for a romantic comedy set in New York...the music from "Introducing...Ruben Gonzalez." One might think that the choice of a Cuban maestro would seem incongrous in a movie set in Manhattan and devoid of any Hispanic references. But Elfman's choice is perfect for the movie for the simple reason that Gonzalez music lends itself to many moods.
Ruben Gonzalez' piano is so evocative, that is simply impossible to go beyond a week -- a day, in my case -- without listening to it. If you loved the BV Social Club, I guarantee that you will worship this CD.

Magical, is probably the best word to describe the musical talent expressed in this wonderful compact disc. Ruben Gonzalez not only provides people around with the opportunity to appreciate his talent. Perhaps, is Ruben's ability to allow us to nurture from Cuba's rich music. The first time I ever heard of Ruben Gonzalez was when I went to a small folk music venue in Dublin to see whosoever happened to be playing that night. It turned out to be Ruben and it was a truly unforgetable show.....! I went out and bought every CD with his name on it but "Introducing...Ruben Gonzalez" is surreal....the best of the lot.
