So much in this album is extraordinary. This brilliant, charming young man with this remarkable voice, the intensity of the inter-generational bridge this tribute to Judy Garland represents, and the sheer verve of the enterprise. It's a tour-de-force, a masterpiece. I'm rushing off now to find the DVD as I can't wait to SEE this. (I hope there is a DVD!)Wainwright recalls Billie Holliday, Judy Garland and the bravura recordings of Bernadette Peters and Nancy LaMott--all with the relaxed assurance that a truly great athlete might show at his best. While I agree that the cd of Rufus doing Judy Live does not include the encores (but the dvd does), I must say that this is still a fantastic and brilliant Rufus release. His voice is in top condition. He delivers beatiful versions of classics made famous by Judy Garland. His versions of "That's Entertainment" and "Over The Rainbow" alone make this set worth getting. I also find it interesting to hear Rufus perform songs that were not written by him, and are from a whole other genre of music... He pull is off wonderfully!! Honestly, I think this is one of R. Wainwright's best work. If you don't like his voice, then I guess that ruins it, but he really puts a lot of soul and feeling in his music. For people who think they could have done better karaoke, I think you are crazy.

I was thinking about the year end "fascinating people" lists. For me Rufus wins hands down. This year his marvleous Judy concerts, his great live shows, his masterly "Release the Stars" album, so original and beautifully crafted. Also watch his interviews on "You tube". He comes across as funny, inteligent, charming and yes fascinating.
This Judy CD is a wonderful. Thanks Rufus, keep up the good work and encourage your Mother and Aunt to make us a new album!

A brilliant concept followed through with a remarkable delivery! This remarkable artist has dared to think big and with a confidence that Judy herself would have demonstrated. This is an album that will referenced for years to come. I only wish I could have been at Carnegie Hall on the night it was recorded.
