Free Music Review: Truly enjoyable......
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD because Elton John was on TV talking about his choices for best newcoming Artists....He mentioned Rufus along with Damien Rice and a few others. Since I love Damien, I figured Elton probably knows what he is talking about. Indeed he does !! This is a wonderfully mellow, musical CD with beautiful magical arrangements. Rufus' sense of humor comes through even though many of the songs are about the sad-ness of our lives.. This is not a rock and roll sort of album in the sense that there is loud, wild music but instead it is a thoughtful rendition of life as seen by the Artist. I highly recommend it and hope that Rufus will continue to bring us quiet inspiration and thought. Thanks Rufus....Cheers, Kiwi

Free Music Review: Rufus's mainstream album
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my favorite Rufus album, followed by Poses, but i do agree with i beilve it was Paul Allastar who did a review on this album, it is a fanstastic album, but can become overwhelming with it. I can listen to it about once a week and enjoy it possibly twice but that is streching it. a highlight in the album for me is "Dinner at Eight" "11:11" "I Dont Know What It Is" etc etc. but a very great album, but you must be in a mood for Rufus i.e. last night i had a 2 hour bus ride back to my hometown and i was listenin to Rufus's self titled and someone knocked me out of my own world and asked me something, i tried to return to it but i couldnt so i suggest listening to all of wainwrights albums by yourself.

Free Music Review: I don't know what it is about Rufus...
Hit: 5 Stars

It would have been hard to top Rufus Wainwright's last album, "Poses." However, this album is so different that it doesn't disappoint listeners by being a mere sequel. The music is brilliant--combining an orchestra of instruments that aren't heard much in modern pop, such as the harp and tuba. In songs like "I Don't Know What It Is" and "Go or Go Away," Wainwright's energy and intensity really shine. Less brooding and more caberet than his last album, Rufus has proven again that he can sing woderfully in a diverse range of styles and come up with consistently unique ideas. Rufus has the gift of elaborating on very personal, emotional themes without ever sounding trite.

Free Music Review: Not quite what I expected
Hit: 5 Stars

I think for the past 5 months I've been intensly listening to Rufus. When I first heard Poses, I couldn't beleive what I was listening to. It had automatic appeal. This album doesn't do that. There are a few songs that start and just don't seem to get off the ground like they're supposed to. On the other hand, "Go or Go Ahead" has one of the most IMMACULATE climaxes I've ever heard. It's like watching lightning. You hear the spark of his voice then the music claps behind it like an awesome multi-staged delayed echo boom. That one song is worth the $14.00.

Although it doesn't really compare to Poses, it's still outdoes anything else out there right now. I give it 5 stars

Free Music Review: Not just for die hard fans
Hit: 5 Stars

"Wainwright could be singing lists of names out of the phone book and it would still be more exciting and inventive than 99 percent of the other albums out there." - Zac Johnson

Rufus Wainwright is by far my favorite musician and his newest album is no less excellent than his phenomenal first two albums. This album may in fact be the most accessible for those who did not instantaneously fall in love with his previous songs. The key is to listen to the songs multiple times allowing them to become familiar to you, like reading poetry, every time you listen the lyrics and music become richer and reveal their exquisite layers of beauty, emotion, and greatness.
