Free Music Notes for Rules of AttractionFree Music Review: 'Equally as Amazing as the Film'.... Hit: 5 Stars
Overall, this is a great soundtrack to a great film. It contains a great mix of 90's underground alt. rock and classics and 'not so classics' from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I'll do the 'each song review' thing: 1.) Carol of the Bells - tomandandy: This is a great intro to the soundtrack. It sets an errie mood for the listener. It is actually the first song played in the film as well. Some first time listeners may be turned off by it's off beat sampling techniques, but it's a song that takes some time to get to enjoy. 2.) Six Different Ways- The Cure: Off of The Cure's first album, back in the early 80's. The Cure have always been pop-icons, but using one of their 'not so popular' songs in the film was a good decision. it actually made me want to listen to more 'non-single' tracks from their albums. The drums in this song are very enjoyable. The bass drum really keeps the song upbeat and fun. The string section is organized, clean, and brilliant. The keyboard effects contribute to the happy go lucky sort of mood that this tune brings to your soul. This is my favorite song on the CD. 3.) Out of the Races and On to the Tracks- The Rapture: A great unerground alt. rock band. The simplfy rock in a way that makes it soothing and fun to listen to. This song appears in the film, during the 'Edge of the World' party. It seems more enjoyable when I hear it in the film, but it brings back memories of the film when I listen to it. It makes me anxious for college parties. 4.) Colours- Donovan: An old 60's, singer songwriter, who should get more credit than he actually recieves. It is a very mellow song, that is played in the film, in the morning, when Sean and Lauren first meet. It's just a beautiful song. Probably my second favorite on the CD. 5.) Situation- Yaz: An under rated 80's pop/electronica group. This song is very energetic. It makes me feel like taking 'E'. 6.) Sunday Girl- Blondie: It is played in the film when Lauren and Lara are preparing for the 'Pre-Saturday Night Party' party. Try to get a hold of the French version, because it is ten times more enjoyable than the English version. 7.) So Alive- Love and Rockets: Played in the film when Sean and Paul are getting high. It's a good song. It makes me anxious. 8.) Pre-Saturday Night Party Party- tomandandy: My second favorite tomandandy original on the disc. It changes into a different song in the middle of the song and then back again. It is played in the beginning of the film, when Paul is tryin to convince two kids to go do 'E', while Sean seduces Kate Bosworth. 9.) Afternoon Delight- Starland Vocal Band: Played in the film when Sean is being naughty. I will never look at this song the same way after seeing the film. 10.) Without You- Harry Nilsson: Played during the suicide scene. I will never look at this song the same again after seeing the film either. 11.) European Vacation- tomandandy (Feat.Kip Pardue): The recording of a trip hop tune with a voice over by Kip Pardue, playing Victor, explaining his stories and adventures while rumaging through Europe. Very funny. 12.) The Gentleman Who Fell- Milla Jovovich: My third favrotie tune on the CD. It is a sad song. Good, but sad. 13.) Snow Theater/Final Steps- tomandandy: My fourth favorite song on the disc. Mellow, and a little sad. 14.) Stop- Erasure: My fifth favorite song on the album. The only Erasure song I like. They are an annoying band, but this song reminds me of the film, and that's why I love it. So, in conclusion, the CD is good. If you like the film, you'll love the soundtrack. Equally as amazing as the film.
