Free Music Notes for Run Lola Run: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: Get pumped up
Hit: 5 Stars

Loved the movie Lola Rennt (aka "Run, Lola, Run"), and the music is an essential character in the movie. The music doesn't merely sit in the background and emphasize the mood of a scene, it propels the story, and creates the heart-pounding race that is the movie. I have to confess that I rarely notice soundtracks in movies the first time I see them, unless they are the "stars"--as in "O Brother, Where Art Thou"--or unless they are comprised of songs I already know. This soundtrack made me immediately want to go out and buy the CD--and I'm not usually into techno, either. It's simply terrific music. I agree that the music on this CD that comes directly from the movie is better than the remixes, with one exception: "Believe" is fabulous, and has the feel of a track that was originally in the movie but cut during editing. And Franka Potenta was terrific, as well--many Americans didn't know who she was until the Bourne Identity came out--but she really shines in this film.
I also agree with others who said that this is excellent music to exercise to--I keep going much longer than I plan to everytime I cue this album up. And I haven't gotten tired of it yet! (Be careful about listening to this while driving down the highway, though--I find myself having to consciously keep from accelerating!)

Free Music Review: THE BEST ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK EVER!
Hit: 5 Stars

This music is what makes you remember "Lola." I loved the movie "Run Lola Run" the first time I saw it, but it didn't occur to me to buy the soundtrack because, like many people, i just don't buy soundtracks. I finally bought it a year ago after hearing people rave about it and it was THE BEST CD PURCHASE I EVER MADE!! I know it's a cliche for music reviews, but it's true! I have listened to it constantly, and it's especially good for motivating you while jogging or running, understandably. I've bought three copies, two of which I've given away because it's awesome to share music as good as this. Tom Tykwer, who dreamed up the movie as well as the soundtrack, is a creative genius! The movie compliments the soundtrack (and vice versa) perfectly! Franka Potente, the star of the movie, lends her vocals to all but one track and there is a song, "Believe," sung by Potente, that is not in the actual movie but can also be found on the DVD, featured as a video. Parts of this soundtrack have been sampled for non-related trailers for some movies and TV shows (see the tracks, "Running Two" and "Casino"). This collection is absolutely essential for any fan of "Lola" or techno/electronica music.

Free Music Review: Foreground and Background, it's solid. Beautiful.
Hit: 5 Stars

Run Lola Run, or Lola Rennt (the original German title), is considered one of the best experimental movies ever made. It's no surprise because it works off pure adrenaline in its entirity. Always a scene of running with different editing techniques (also considered the welcoming of new century filmmaking) and a constant hurried vibe.
The music that supports this movie fits perfectly. It's frenetic, continuous and energetic. Even if you're not ready to "run" when you put this album on, by the middle you'll have already passed half a mile.
The best way to explain what you're going to hear is pulse-pounding feverish dance/electionic music. One of the composers is actually the director and it's clear because the songs are the perfect fit to their movie counterpart.
Something that may be a little hard for some to take is the remixes at the second half of the album. True they are just remixes and are not as well sectioned as the first half, but they are still easy to work to, just not as well connected.
It's amazing how people overlook soundtracks when they watch movies, but, if nothing else, this soundtrack stands alone just as well as it does behind Lola Rennt.

Free Music Review: I wish I was a hunter, in search of different food...
Hit: 5 Stars

I love it! It's playing in my computer's CD player as I write these words. Others have called it repetive. Well, it *is* techno, isn't it? Repetition of a theme, with new sounds and twists and beats injected, is what techno is all about, for me anyway. This one carries it off perfectly. It's gone around a few times already, and will go around a few more before I give it a break.

One thing that the tracks on this CD carry off perfectly is the integration of vocals with the techno sound. While many techno artists seem to think that voices have to be distorted beyond recognition to fit in to techno, in this case the lyrics come through clearly. This is especially true with Franka Potente's contributions on the first track "Believe" which is worth buying the CD for just on its own.

By the way, if you haven't seen the movie, I recommend it - it's now out on video.

Free Music Review: Pumping Techno-Goodness
Hit: 5 Stars

After seeing Run Lola Run I just had to have the soundtrack. The opening track, 'Believe,' is from a music video featuring Franke Potente (Lola). The video can be found on the DVD release of the movie.

The next seven tracks (Introduction, Running One, Supermarket, Running Two, Running Three, Casino, Somebody Has to Pay) are taken, mostly unaltered, from the movie itself. Most of the lyrics from these songs are in English. Several common musical motifs run through the tracks, tying them together.

The remaining eight tracks are mostly remixes of the previous songs, with mainly German lyrics. I didn't care for these tracks as much; they seemed to be less complex and interesting compared to the movie versions, but still cool in their own right.

Overall this is an outstanding collection of energetic techno-rock! Grab it!
