Free Music Notes for Caress of Steel

Free Music Review: Rush's Most Underrated Prog Effort.
Hit: 5 Stars

Caress Of Steel's mood is very dark and artsy, I can't even really explain it, but yes, it does sound underdeveloped compared to their later epic-featuring albums, but to me that's what makes this album great...and underrated. Songs like the heavy "Bastille Day", and "I Think I'm Going Bald", are excellent, I'm sorry, but I love the quirkiness of the latter track. The lyrics don't really bother me to much, because the music is more important and it rocks hard. To me "The Fountain Of Lamneth", is the high point of the cd. The lyrics may seem to others like their 'weak' or 'shallow', but once again fine, the music, at least on here is what should be looked at. The music on here to me is great featuring heavy rock, soothing classical guitar, and heavy rock again.

Overall, this is a great and underrated cd and a great progressive rock album.

Thanks.

Hit: 5 Stars

I can't say enough about Rush. They are an INCREDIBLE band. However, I admit, I stopped following them after their PRESTO album. All the albums prior to that one KICKED in my not so humble opinion. However Caress of Steel remains one of my FAVORITE cd's in my Rush catalog. Why? Melodies and lots of it -- it is NOT pop, but very deep songwriting and great melodies. Yeah sure, it's musically self-indulgent, but so what? I think the same could be said for any jazz, fusion or classical music. Hmmmm? Contrary to it's title, it's not ALL heavy. It has plenty of mellow moments. It's an emotional roller coaster ride. It's awesome. And yes, it is an underrated album, just like Hemispheres, another gem. Don't get me wrong I love the pop/radio stuff too. Anyway, enough of this, I gotta get back to work. Buy the cd y'all and listen with open mind.

Free Music Review: HIDDEN GEM
Hit: 5 Stars

I became a Rush fan in the early 80's. My first album being "Signals". I was immediately blown away. Over the years I have since collected every Rush album and "Caress of Steel" has become the one I find myself going back to listen to most often.Though I enjoy every song on this album, three of the five "songs" stand out as exceptional. "The Necromancer" and "The Fountain of Lamneth" are both trademark early Rush "theme" works which both have dark flowing melodies and wonderful stories. My favorite tune on the album is "Lakeside Park". It is an anomoly for Rush and was a very brave departure from their standard song writing at the time. It is a very beautiful and happy look back at a childhood memory. Overall an exceptional album. Rush at their quirky best.

Free Music Review: Their Best Work?...Probably Not. My Favorite?... Absolutely!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album always had a special place in my record collection. It was always on the turntable! This is a very dark album, but I couldn't help but enjoy every track! Even Rush fans might think I'm going a little overboard here, but if I had to take 1 Rush album with me, it would be Caress. Its really an album about defeating your own dark side and making the journey to our own "Fountain of Lamneth."

The epic song on this one is "The Necromancer." Definatly Rush's most under rated song. The lyrics will always haunt me..."Even now, the intensity of his dread power can be felt...weakening the body, and saddening the heart - ultimately, they will become empty, mindless spectors. Stripped of will and soul, only thier thirst for freedom, gives them hunger for vengance..." Wow, I still get goose bumps!

Free Music Review: Not Their Best, But Worth A Listen
Hit: 5 Stars

-Bastille Day: 5 stars, defiitely one of the more well known ones on this album. Great rocker and smart lyrics.
-I Think I'm Going Bald: 3 stars, the lyrics are stupid but the groove and feel of this one makes up for it.
-Lakeside Park: 5 stars, smooth light rocker with some nice lyrics. Definitely woth its spot on Chronicles alongside Bastille Day.
-The Necromancer: 5 stars, sort of a warped sequel to By-Tor And The Snow Dog. The Only reason its warped is the fact that By-Tor's the hero here while he was the villian there.
-The Fountain Of Lamenth: 5 stars, this is the essential track here. Worth the cover price alone. The lyrics and music depict a fantasy quest for ultimate peace and knowledge and it is discovered at the end with a return to the innocence and naivete' of childhood.
Good work RUSH!
