Free Music Notes for Caress of SteelFree Music Review: An underrated Rush CD Hit: 5 Stars
I don't see why everybody seems to put this CD down. IMO, it's an underrated Rush CD. Great songs like Bastille Day, Lakeside Park, The Necromancer, etc. Also, with The Fountain Of Lamneth, Rush ventures out into the world of side-long epics, as this was their first one. Like I said, this is an underrated Rush CD. Alex, Neil, and Geddy are all in great form here. And Neil has written some great lyrics here. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.P.S. To "Grillmaster Deli": If you honestly think that Geddy Lee is the worst vocalist in the history of rock, well, then you obviously haven't listened to AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson circa 1990-present. Now THERE'S a vocalist who deserves the "worst vocalist in the history of rock" title. I mean, this guy sounds like Geddy Lee on acid!
Free Music Review: Dark, Eerie and Brilliant Hit: 5 Stars
Along with A FAREWELL TO KINGS, I would consider CARESS OF STEEL to be my favorite in the Rush catalog ... Brimming with brilliant guitar work, this could be Alex's finest showing: a diverse and purposeful tour-de-force of electric and acoustic guitar, woven seamlessly creating an epic monster ... The classical pieces are fresh and emotional, and fit perfectly with Geddy's vocals, while at times the electric numbers come across sinister and dark ; having a the feel of Black Sabbath ( ie: The Necromancer ... which, btw, is the all-time underrated Rush song ) ... Caress of Steel is so chock full of great music, and I can't say enough great things about it ... This to me was the begining of an era for Rush; a fresh, exciting and creative high point in a career full of great moments ...
Free Music Review: This is a very artistic, creative album!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is one that definitely grows on you. Anyone who listens to this album only a few times is out of their mind. I have had the album for almost ten years and have worn out two tapes. The mellow rifts and creative lyrics paints images in your head that future bands just never seem to capture. Since I was just listening to this album this morning in my car, I felt that I was justified in giving a critique. This album has played in my car for two weeks straight on the way to work and it consistently makes me smile. The only flaw was the recording capabilities back in the 70"s, it is not as clear and crisp as recordings these days. I am asssuming the new digitally remastered version is better, I'll buy that when this tape wears out.
Free Music Review: Quite Possibly Their Best Album Hit: 5 Stars
Although discounted by the record label, this record represents the shear intensity of these 3 incredible musicians even at the very young ages (they were) at that time. Listen to the Necromancer at about 4 minutes in......the 3+ minute guitar solo work of Alex Lifeson is beyond description. He gets less credit than Lee and Peart when it comes to shear talent yet when you listen to tracks like this you see how unfair those asessments really are. This guy belongs in the top 10 guitarist list of all time. This band is simply incredible. Pick up a copy of this little known album and listen to it from beginning to end. You'll be hooked. Then discover the first track on Hemispheres and you simply won't believe your ears. Rush is simply awe inspiring.
Free Music Review: Great work Hit: 5 Stars
This is a classic......I remember when I heard this first in 1975-76 driving on the Viaduct in Seattle in the summer... first Bastille Day and then finishing with the Necromancer.....The Necromancer is the song of songs.....I just played this on a cd player at a local pub and the people went crazy, it was invigorating to say the least. The Necromancer is a classic song with absolutely everything in it, deep, dark, foreboding suspense, then followed by victory, light and triumph.....just to hear one Rush song, just one, this is my pick, hands down....The Necromancer is by far their finest work ....don't ever dismiss this album/cd, this has everything and I've been Rush fan for more than 30 years......Five stars without
