Free Music Notes for Exit Stage LeftFree Music Review: One of the Greatest Live ever Hit: 5 Stars
It was through Exit stage Left that I first got introduced to the music of Rush and it was a masterful rendition.Almost all the numbers are fantastic with Jacobs Ladder being the best. Other great numbers include tom Sayer,Red Barchetta,Withhunt etc. This album defintely has a new age sound ie a unique sound generated by rush. After listening to this album I went on to buy A show of hands, moving Pictures, caress of steel, grace under pressure,2112 etc. But this album along with Moving Pictures and A show of Hands are the best three albums produced by Rush and one of the best in rocks history. Despite these three great albums I am unable to place Rush in the same league as Jethro Tull or Pink Floyd. The main reason is the lack of consistency in their subsequent albums. Also Unlike Tull Rush has a limitation in their musical variety and vocals is a bit too monotonous and thus I have stopped buying other Rush albums.
Free Music Review: A great follow up to 'All The World's A Stage'! Hit: 5 Stars
Rush is one of those great bands that knows how to put out a great live album. They proved that in the late '70s with 'All The World's A Stage' and proved it again in 1982 with 'Exit...Stage Left.'
This was recorded on the 'Moving Pictures' tour. Neil, Geddy and Alex jam here, just like on the previous live album, and perform concert classics like 'Tom Sawyer,' 'The Spirit of Radio,' and 'Xanadu' brilliantly.
'A Passage To Bangkok' is far superior to the studio version. This is just a great version, and this version was so good, Mercury put it on their 1992 compilation 'Chronicles.'
Overall, if you like Rush and great live records, than you'll love 'Exit.' It's a classic. And Mercury did a great job remastering this. In translation, the sound quality is unbeatable!
Highly recommended for any Rush fan or anybody who likes classic live records. It's a classic. ENJOY!!!
Free Music Review: Probably Rush's Greatest Live Album - Probably the Greatest Live Album Ever! Hit: 5 Stars
I have listened to many live albums including Cheap Trick's "At Budokan", Slayer's "Live Decade of Aggression", and Led Zeppelin's "How the West Was Won" etc. There's probably only one that has convinced me as much as "Exit...Stage Left" and that's Megadeth's "That One Night - Live in Buenos Aires". What makes this even better than Megadeth's live album is the song selections...and the musical skills that Rush's players have. The audience is really there where it should be. Many people have said that Rush is much better live than studio - this is defintely a proof of that. Of course (I know), there's small breaks between the songs in some cases but actually that goes for me. Actually the only bad thing are fade-ins. This live album is even better than their first one "All the World's a Stage" which also is a must for every Rush fan.
Stars: Xanadu, YYZ, A Passage to Bangkok, Tom Sawyer
Free Music Review: A powerful live set even after 20 years! Hit: 5 Stars
This is no doubt the best of Rush's live albums. All the classics are here: Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Tom Sawyer, YYZ, The Trees, etc. The highlight track is the epic, La Villa Strangiato. An eleven minute instrumental this is no doubt Rush in its finest hour. This live version is also much superior to the original studio one released on the 1978 album Hemispheres. Every time I hear Alex Lifeson's slow & moody guitar solo about halfway through the song I get goosebumps all over. Also the extended jam between "The Trees" and "Xanadu" is nothing short of breathtaking. The band even adds an extended acoustic intro track to the beginning of "The Trees" that can be found only this live record. This CD is an absolute necessity in the collection of serious rock fans everywhere!
Free Music Review: The best live album ever recorded! Hit: 5 Stars
This and the "America: A Tribute to Heroes" compilation are the best live albums ever made! I love this album. My dad got me into Rush not too long ago and I have to say that this CD rocks and so does the band. The sound quality is phenomenal especially on this remastered edition. My dad has the original 1981 cassette of this album and it sounds pretty worn out. I love these guys. I have the following CDs from them:Exit...stage left Moving Pictures Rush Chronicles (THE ESSENTIAL RUSH 2-DISC SET!) 2112 Signals (ON 12" Vinyl) Vapor Trails (This is the new recording just released in June of this year that is really good, not as good as vintage Rush but it is pretty noteworthy). I really recommend this and the Rush Chronicles 2-disc set because those will make you a total Rush fan!
