Free Music Notes for Power WindowsFree Music Review: One of their strongest albums Hit: 5 Stars
This was the third Rush album I bought as a kid, and it remains one of my favorites to this day. Their synthesizer work, while different from much of their previous work, is strong, and the songs are a lot of fun.
This album was much stronger than their earlier Grace Under Pressure album, in that the lyrics are better crafted and the sounds of the various instruments are better integrated. Grace Under Pressure always sounded "rushed" to me (no pun intended), sounding like the synthesizer was laid down first, and the other instruments were sort of added around it. Here, the instruments are used in a more balanced way, and the outcome is one of Rush's most melodic efforts. This is especially true for Mystic Rhythms, but it also characterizes the other songs.
All-in-all, Power Windows is one of Rush's best, and, without a doubt, one of the best albums from a decade filled with great music.
Free Music Review: Quit whining Hit: 5 Stars
Rush fans who cry about too much synthesizer and not enough guitar on this album need to pull their head out and listen to this one again. Lifeson has some of his greatest moments as a soloist on this album (see "Middletown Dreams"). Geddy Lee is at the top of his game as a bassist, its the most FAT sound he's ever had on a Rush album, and Neil Peart is, as usual, great on every track. I got my first Rush album when I was seven ("Caress of Steel"), and have every album they've made. To me, this is the finest Rush album of all of them. 80's Rush has been way too overlooked, and "Power Windows" shows Rush flexing their creative muscle in peak form. "Signals" and "Grace Under Pressure" were good, but "Power Windows" is the pinnacle of that period in Rush's development. If you don't have it, get it. This is the most important Rush album of them all.
Free Music Review: not a bad spot from this synth gem Hit: 5 Stars
For awhile, i never got anything from the so-called "synth era" of Rush music. But a about a year ago, i got a show of hands, and got tuned into this epoch of music. and of all the albums i've gotten, power windows has to be the most consistent of them. Not one song is bad. big Money starts the album off with a bang. Grand Designs and Manhattan Project continue this wave. And Marathon probably puts this at a peak: a killer bassline that shows how good Geddy really is, excellent drumming by Neil, nice keyboard touch on the chorus, and Alex's solo, which I must say is spine-chilling to listen to. On this album, Geddy combines keyboards and bass nicely (the bass sounds more puchy than on GUP), and Neil also leanrs when to make use of his new electronic drums. All in all, a great album, with good lyrics and music. this belongs in every Rush's fan's collection for sure.
Free Music Review: No More Doubts Hit: 5 Stars
well, honestly, i was nervous to use a card on the internet with a company and also afraid of getting a product that had been taken care of poorly while shipping (I Like my cd's and cases to be almost perfect.) You have provided the service you said that you would. So Far all cd's have been unscratched and work perfectly, i've only had one cd case with a crack in it. (this one for power windows, not a bad crack though, cracked during shipping i'm sure, and easily replaceable anyways). A trust worthy place to order from. Oh, and no problems with the credit card, other then my bank thought it was stolen, cause i ordered around 20 some odd items the second time i used your web site. :-). Free Music Review: "First you need endurance, first you've got to last" Hit: 5 Stars
Regardless of what anyone else says, I think this album rates as good as anything Rush ever did. The only thing that disappoints me about it is I think "Marathon" should go on longer and not end so abruptly. It should be a 7 minute song at least. Honestly, I really didn't like Rush till I heard some of the songs off this album then I realized I like some of the things they'd done earlier although I had boughten "Grace Under Pressure" which came before this album. Neil Peart plays the drums to perfection, Alex Lifeson plays some great guitar, "Grand Designs" is just one good example. Even Geddy Lee doesn't sound bad and Peart's lyrics are well, profound. This is Rush with a clean, refined sound. Not necessarily a plus, but I don't believe it's a minus either. Rush is going to sound good regardless.
